John Maloney Junior Signs NLI for Albany

- In his two years on Varsity, John Maloney has amassed 92 points (54g-40a) and last summer he played for the Brine All-American Lacrosse National Classic (champions) and the Nike Upstate Rising Senior team (champions) along with a trip to the 205 Camp where he made the all-star team. It certainly has been a busy time for John, but the highlight may have been his National Letter Maloney Signingof Intent signing ceremony at Victor Central School on Tuesday. There, with over fifty well-wishers, he, along with Mitch Rupp and TJ DiSanto were honored as they committed to their Division I college teams.

John looked at Yale, Air Force, Mercyhurst and Sienna, "but at the end I knew Albany was for me. When I first got there I realized that it was where I wanted to go. I loved the college. I loved the coaches. They were all really nice. All the players on the team, when I did my over-night, were all really nice kids." A highlight of that trip was a scrimmage between the team and the alumni and there he saw the team in action. "I don't think they kept score but they did really well." On my other visit I spent time in the classrooms. I just liked everything about it."

Albany, under Head Coach Scott Marr, has picked up a number of high profile scholastic players in the last few recruiting season including Joe Resetarits (Hamburg) and the Thompson boys (Lyle, Miles and Ty from Section 3). Current seniors from Section Five who are planning to go to Albany include Maloney and his teammate Mitch Rupp, along with Blaze Riorden (Fairport) and Tyler Aycock (Pittsford).

The credit for his success starts with his parents (John Sr. and Michele). "They probably took me to Maryland twenty times." Additionally he mentioned his Victor coaches and his club team coaches (Blaze). "Tim Soudan, Mr. Riorden and Mr. Emmick all taught me a lot and taught me a ton of great things that helped me get to Albany at the end."
