Newark Gets First WIn

- Newark earned its first victory of the season with an eighteen to nine win over Gates Chili in a non-league matchup. Senior attackman Sam Underhill led Newark’s offense with nine goals and two assists, while fellow attackman Evan Shulla added five goals and two assists. Midfielders Lucas Young, Tristan Harris, and Conley Arbogast each netted one goal, with Young and Arbogast scoring their first varsity goals. Senior midfielder Cameron Baker also recorded his first varsity goal, contributing one goal and one assist. In goal, senior Carter Bumpus made sixteen saves on twenty-five shots, finishing with a sixty-four percent save rate.

Gates Chili was paced by senior attackman Joshua Yakowitz, who scored four goals, while midfielder Zach Fennell added two goals. Jayden Maryjanowski registered one goal and one assist, and Callaway Phommachanh and Michael Alley each found the net once. Midfielders Chandler Vogel and Gianni Salandy combined for three assists. Sophomore goalie Demar Williams reached his two hundredth career save with his eight stops in the contest. Alley also controlled the face-off circle, winning eighteen of twenty-four attempts.

With the win, Newark improves to one win and three losses, while Gates Chili moves to two wins and four losses. Newark will look to carry momentum into its next matchup against Mynderse-Romulus, while Gates Chili will prepare for its upcoming game against East United-Eastridge.     [ Story and BOX SCORE
