Panthers Hold Off Raiders in Thrilling Match

- Pittsford remained undefeated at 7-0 following a narrow 6-5 win against Fairport in the MC-D1 league game on Friday night. The Panthers took a decisive lead late in the fourth quarter when Avery Valenti scored his third goal of the game, assisted by Jack Healy. Earlier, Charlie Ryan broke a 3-3 tie with fifty-two seconds remaining in the third quarter, giving Pittsford a critical edge heading into the final stanza. Fairport’s Jack Gosiewski added two goals, including a tying shot in the fourth quarter assisted by Mitchell Monte, who was a factor in every score as he tallied four assists and one goal.

In goal, Pittsford’s eighth-grader Bear Wehrheim recorded nine saves with five goals allowed for a 64% save rate in forty-eight minutes. Luke Ryan, a senior for Fairport, matched with eleven saves on six goals allowed for a 65% save rate in forty-eight minutes. Key scorers included Pittsford’s Valenti with three goals, Fairport’s Gosiewski with two, and Monte, who contributed five points for the Raiders. Corey Roeser excelled in face-offs, winning ten of fourteen for Fairport.

Despite Fairport's late-game push, including a full-field score by Ryan Cain with twelve seconds left, Pittsford held firm to secure the victory. Fairport now turns to host Rush-Henrietta on Wednesday, while Pittsford prepares to face Irondequoit the same night.     [ Story and BOX SCORE
