Gearing Up for Promising 2025 Season
As the spring lacrosse season approaches, the Wayne Boys Lacrosse team is ready to hit the field with renewed vigor and determination. After posting a 7-10 record last year, the team aims to build on their experiences and make a strong showing in Class C competition.
2024 Season Recap
In the 2024 season, Wayne faced its share of ups and downs, winning 5 games by more than 5 goals and losing 6 by the same margin. Despite some close games, the team did not experience any one-goal games. The team scored a total of 184 goals with an average of 10.8 goals per game, while allowing 205 goals against them, averaging 12.1 goals per game.
Key Departures
Wayne will be without the talents of three graduated seniors who made significant contributions last season. Braylon Agnello (17 goals, 22 assists) earned All-League 3rd Team honors as an attackman. Alex Garrow, who scored 36 goals and added 27 assists, was named US Lacrosse Academic All-American and Finger Lakes Midfielder of the Year. Garrow will be continuing his lacrosse career at Nazareth College. Midfielder PJ Ostrowski, with 34 goals and 19 assists, was a key playmaker and received All-League 1st Team recognition
Returning Talent
Wayne is fortunate to have a good core of returning players who earned accolades last season. Ben Dodds, a junior defenseman, was named to the All-League 2nd Team as an LSM Midfielder. Mason Michel, a senior attack/midfielder, scored 29 goals and provided 14 assists, earning All-League 2nd Team Attack honors. Senior goalie Logan Phillips made 185 saves with a 52.9% save percentage and was named to the All-League 3rd Team Goalie. Cuyler Ruffell, a junior LSM, earned All-League 2nd Team Defense honors. Hank Smith, a junior midfielder, scored 14 goals and had 4 assists, receiving All-League 3rd Team Midfield recognition. Lastly, Tas Strickland, a senior attack/midfielder, scored 46 goals and provided 22 assists, earning a spot on the All-League 1st Team Attack.
Rising Stars
With a balanced mix of rising seniors, juniors, and sophomores, Wayne is poised to have a well-rounded team. This year, they are looking forward to continued growth and development under the guidance of Head Coach John Hanss who has a record of 18-11 and is entering his third. Underclassmen Paxton Landon, Shane Coleman, Tucker Eaton, Cody Crandell, and Stone Sozio will all provide a good display of athleticism and talent for the Eagles.
Season Outlook
As the new season begins, the Wayne Boys Lacrosse team is focused on improving their performance, aiming for more consistent results and capitalizing on close game opportunities. With a dedicated roster and strong leadership, Wayne is set to make a significant impact in the 2025 lacrosse season.
