2025 Preview: Honeoye Falls-Lima
March 4, 2025 -
Poised for Another Dominant Season
As the Honeoye Falls-Lima (HFL) Boys Lacrosse team prepares for the 2025 season, expectations are high. The Cougars, coming off a strong 2024 season with a record of 19-3, are hungry for more success.
Challenges and Opportunities
HFL must overcome the loss of 13 graduated seniors. These players were crucial to the team's success, including standout midfielder Drew Angelo, who was a US Lacrosse All-American and the Section 5 MVP (Class C). Attackman Chase Perryman who was also a US Lacrosse All-American and defenseman Ben Cook, who earned All-Academic honors, will also be missed.
Rising Stars and Veterans
Despite these losses, the Cougars have a solid foundation of returning talent. Leading the charge is All-League 1st Team midfielder Quinn Kailbourne, who contributed 47 goals and 31 assists last season. Alongside him is Grady Goodberlet, a prolific attackman with 70 goals and 14 assists, who earned All-League 2nd Team honors.
Other key returnees include Jason Bennett, the sophomore goalie who had 111 saves with a 49.6% save percentage; Mathew Brassie, an All-League 2nd Team midfielder with 20 goals and 16 assists; Alex Steinhoff, an All-League 2nd Team midfielder with 3 goals and 6 assists; and Marco Vengoechea, an All-League Honorable Mention midfielder with 14 goals and 7 assists.
A Proven Leader at the Helm
Head Coach Eric Goodberlet, entering his third season, boasts an impressive 34-8 record. His leadership has been pivotal in maintaining HFL's competitive edge. Goodberlet will look to leverage his experience and the returning core to guide the team to new heights. He looks forward to the season, "We have a tight knit, hungry group of young men that have been putting in the off season work as a team to prepare for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to growing together as the season progresses".
Upcoming Season Outlook
The 2025 Cougars have a balanced mix of experience and fresh talent. With a strong returning offensive lineup and a reliable defense, HFL aims to dominate once again. They demonstrated their scoring prowess last season, netting 311 goals with an average of 14.1 goals per game, while only conceding 154 goals.
As the new season approaches, HFL fans have every reason to be excited. The team is determined to build on their previous successes and make a deep run in the state tournament.
With Coach Goodberlet's strategic acumen and the players' talent and determination, the HFL Boys Lacrosse team is poised for another remarkable season.
