February 22, 2025 -
Leadership and Experience
[UPDATED] As the 2025 lacrosse season approaches, the Pittsford Boys Lacrosse team, led by seasoned Head Coach Andrew Whipple, gears up for another competitive year, but instead of playing in Class A, this year they will play in Class B. With a record of 237-112 over 21 seasons, Coach Whipple brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the table.
2024 Season Recap
In 2024, Pittsford ended the season with an even 8-8 record, showcasing their ability to win decisively with five victories by more than five goals. Despite this, close games were a challenge, with six of their losses coming by just one goal.
Key Departures
The team bids farewell to 13 graduating seniors, including standout players like Zachary Bennett (All-League 2nd Team Defense), Ian Erskine (All-League 1st Team Midfield), and Luke Fliss (All-League 1st Team Midfield). Their contributions, both on and off the field, will be missed as the team moves forward.
Returning Talent
The 2025 roster is bolstered by several award-winning players. Keegan Ahern (Hofstra), an All-League 1st Team LSM Midfield, will be a key player this season. Brady Goetz (Marquette), with 18 goals and 22 assists last year, returns as an All-League 2nd Team Attack. Cole Goetz, who earned All-League Honorable Mention, adds depth as an Attack/Midfielder. Charles Hezel and Dane Lewis, both recognized as All-League Honorable Mention Defense, will fortify the team's defense. Avery Valenti, an All-League 2nd Team Midfield, brings his impressive 31 goals and 8 assists to the table. Bear Wehrhein, with 106 saves and an All-League Honorable Mention Goalie accolade, is expected to guard the net once again. With 80 returning goals (54%) and 48 returning assists (62%), the team has a solid foundation to build upon.
Rising Stars
Expectations are high for the seven rising seniors, who are set to take on leadership roles. The team's juniors and sophomores also bring depth and potential, with four juniors and seven sophomores ready to make their mark.
New Addition
The team is looking forward to a new transfer as Jahyden Maiorani comes from two noteworthy seasons at East United, where he led the team in points as a both an 8th grader (23g-15a) and last year as a freshman (35g-10a).
Highlights from Last Season
Pittsford demonstrated resilience and potential in several key games last year, including a dominant 8-6 win against Penfield and a close 8-7 victory over Fairport. However, narrow losses, such as the 7-6 defeat to Irondequoit, highlight areas for improvement.
Goals for 2025
The team's expected goal for the upcoming season is to leverage their returning talent and integrate the rising seniors effectively. With a balanced roster and experienced leadership, Pittsford aims to turn last year's close losses into victories and improve their overall standing.
Coach Whipple and his team are ready to tackle the challenges of the new season with determination and a competitive spirit. As the pre-season unfolds, Pittsford fans can look forward to exciting lacrosse action and a team committed to "Be the Best".
