Season Ends with 5 One-Goal Games

- Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only one game left to be played when Eastridge and Marcus Whitman meet on Friday, the last big day of the regular season came to an end with lots of close games. Wayne beat Midlakes 12-11, Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse 12-11 in overtime, Pal-Mac beat Geneva in overtime and Thomas beat Penn Yan 5-4.

Penn Yan at ThomasPenfield held a five goals lead going into the fourth quarter; however, it took overtime for them to defeat Irondequoit 9-8. The Eagles scored five goals in the fourth quarter and held the Patriots scoreless for the final 15 minutes of regulation (and three more minutes in overtime). However, the Patriot offense was too strong in the long-run and the Patriots came away with the win. A key component of Penfield’s success came from face-off midfielder John Richiusa won finished 17/20 (85%). The game winning goal was scored by Jack Schlifke off a feed from Michael Mitchell.

Spencerport scored the game opener and never trailed in their 7-4 win over HF-L. The Cougars kept the game close, but after a 1-1 tie, they never forced a second tie. All four HF goals were scored by different players with Josh Kosciol leading in scoring at 1g-1a. For Spencerport, Connor Mesh finished with a team leading 3g and goalie Adam Birkbeck recorded 10 saves (71%) in the win.

Pal-Mac had a 12-11 double overtime win over Geneva in the second day of the Finger Lakes Tournament. The Red Raiders scored the final five goals of the game and held the Panthers scoreless in the final quarter. The game winning goal was scored in the second overtime period by Grady Arnold.

Penn Yan at ThomasMarcus Whitman defeated Bloomfield-Honeoye on Tuesday, 12-11 in the first overtime period. Tonight, they did it again, this time defeating Mynderse 12-11 in the first overtime period. Tonight, they fought back with the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Blue Devils held a four-goal lead late in the third before Marcus Whitman started a 5 out of 6 goal stretch to tie the game at 9-9 halfway through the fourth. Connor Tomion scored the final three goals for the Wildcats. He finished with 4g on the game. STORY CONTINUES

In a back and forth matchup that was heavily defensive, Thomas defeated Penn Yan 5-4. The game was marked with long periods of both teams playing slow offense. After clearing the ball upfield, both teams would hold while looking for opportunities. The game was almost always within a single goal with both teams leading throughout. The Titans briefly held a two-goal lead at 5-3 before Penn Yan scored to pull it within one again. Evan Pashalidis scored 2g for the Titans and Colton Smith scored 2g for the Mustangs.

Victor travelled south to Corning today, where the Hawks defeated the Blue Devils 9-5. Ending their regular season with a 15-1 record, Corning's only lost was in overtime and at the hands of Geneva in their opening game.

Also winning today were Livonia-Avon, Churchville-Chili, Gates Chili, Pittsford, McQuaid Jesuit, Bloomfield-Honeoye and Gananda.
