Fairport Gives JD First Loss of the Season

- Fairport defeated JD for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period.  Colin Peers scored his third goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the victory.  Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year.  The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12.  Overall, JD still leads the series 7-4.  This season, the Rams came into the game undefeated at 10-0.  They had two close one goal wins over West Genesee (8-7) and ESM (11-10).  JD at FairportWith three minutes remaining in regulation, JD led by three 9-6 and were looking strong to keep up their undefeated season.  Fairport scored three goals in the final 2:37 to send the game into overtime.  Peers scored both the game tying goal as well as the overtime goal.

Both teams had times on top and the game was back and forth with neither team really gaining significant control until the end of the third/beginning of the fourth when the Rams scored four straight to take the 3 goal lead.  Fairport started out the scoring with a goal from Gavin Ingalls (assisted by Kole Herren).  The Rams responded with two more goals before the quarter ended.  Tanner Burns scored the his first (of 3) off a feed from William Davis.  Davis was a major offensive force for JD; he finished with 1g-5a and was a part of 67% of all Ram goals.  Davis continued with his second assist to Matt Kemmis with 1:48 remaining in the opening quarter.  JD took their first lead to go 2-1 into the second quarter.

JD at FairportKemmis and Davis paired up again to open the second and give JD a 3-1 lead.  Fairport responded with two of their own to tie the game for the second time.  Klay Stuver and Ingalls scored for the Red Raiders.  Not to be outdone, JD took the lead again with back to back goals.  Connor Durkin and Burns scored for the Rams.  The first half ended with the third tie of the game.  Peers and Ingalls scored.  Ingalls goal was scored with 0:35 remaining in the half.

Fairport’s Herren scored off a feed from Alex Nicastro to put the Red Raiders back on top for the first time since the opening goal.  They held the lead for three minutes before the Rams tied the game again.  Kemmis scored, followed quickly by Durkins’ second goal.  The Rams led 7-6 after three quarters.  They continued the pressure into the fourth with goals from Davis and Durkin within the first two minutes of the quarter.  With 10:28 on the clock, JD led by three goals.  They held that lead for eight minutes before Fairport started scoring in the final three minutes.

Ingalls’ fourth goal started the scoring with 2:37 left on the clock.  Stuver scored 42 seconds later to pull within one.  A little over a minute later, Peers scored the game tying goal with only 0:36 left on the clock.  Peers’ game winning goal was assisted by Rob Crowley.  JD faces off against their second Section Five opponent next week when they face Victor on the 13th.
