Brighton Defeats CBA in 2OT
April 6, 2019 - Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: In the closest of games played today, Brighton's junior attackman Lukas Stanat scored the winning goal in the second overtime period. The first quarter was close with Christian Brothers Academy up 2-1, but the Barons responded before the half with four goals and took the halftime break up 5-3. Five goals from the Brothers in the third quarter tied the game at 8-8 to start the last quarter. Both teams scored three in the final twelve minutes. With around three minutes left in the game and Brighton up 11-8, the Brothers surged, tying the game with 0:11 left.
Six different Barons made the offensive book led by Casey McDermott (2g-5a) and Stanat (3g-2a). Leading the Brothers were Colin Kelly (2g-3a), Preston Taylor (3g-1a) and Ryan Mackenzie (1g-3a). Brighton, now 4-1 will play Spencerport on Tuesday.
Gunner MacMillan (3g-3a) and Nick Cowie (3g-1a) led the Royal comets to another win (now 5-1) as they beat Lancaster (Section VI) 10-7 at home. Cameron Kuzniar made 9 saves (56%) for Rush-Henrietta who will take on the Greece Storm on Tuesday.
Victor improved their record to 4-1 with a 9-7 win at Baldwinsville. Liam Haller recorded 17s (71%) while Joey Pezzimenti scored five goals. The Blue Devils led 8-3 at the half. Adam Davis led the Bees with 4g. The Blue Devils play Thomas on Tuesday.
Also winning today were Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Gates Chili, Hilton, Schroeder, McQuaid Jesuit, Wayne, Pal-Mac, Marcus Whitman, Penn Yan and Waterloo.
