Chalmers Scores in OT for CC

- Senior Eli Chalmers fed Patrick Mitchell for the game winning goal 3:40 into the first overtime period to give Churchville-Chili the 12-11 win over Williamsville North.  Tonight was opening night of the new Saint’s turf field and Chalmers was a demonstrative force; he finished with 6g-3a and was a part of 75% off all Churchville-Chili goals.

Mitchell, in addition to the game winning goal, scored the game opening goal.  0:32 into the contest, Mitchell scored off a feed from Brett Seaman to put the Saints up for the first time.  Three minutes later, Conor Murphy tied the game at 1-1.  Murphy led in scoring for the Spartans with 5g.  Braeden Schmidt scored unassisted for the Saints just over one minute later to put them back on top.  The Spartans kept up their pressure and scored three straight goals in 1:43 to take their first lead.  Tyler Zeplowitz, Brian Patterson and Murphy each scored one goal for Williamsville North.  The Saints could not be held down and added four of their own goals before the quarter expired.  Churchville-Chili led 6-4 after 12 minutes.

The second quarter began with Williamsville North scoring back to back to tie the game at 6-6.  Own Cooney scored the sixth goal with 6:38 remaining in the half.  The third, and final, goal of the quarter was scored with Mitchell assisting Will Zimmerman with 1:31 on the clock.  Churchville-Chili led a slight 7-6 win at halftime.

The third quarter was much like the second.  The Spartans tied the game and Churchville-Chili responded.  After tying the game again with 4:46 remaining, the Spartans scored again 43 seconds later (unassisted by Murphy) to go back into the lead for the second time in the game.  They held on for three minutes before Chalmers tied the game for the seventh time.  The third quarter ended at 7-7.  Seaman scored his first goal off a feed from Chalmers to open the final quarter.  Once again, the Spartans failed to be kept down and scored back to back to take their third lead of the game.

Williamsville North held that lead for seven minutes and time counted down.  Chalmers finally got one past the keeper with 1:17 remaining in regulation.  The final eighty seconds saw neither team able to score and the game went into overtime.  The lack of scoring continued for the first three minutes of the first overtime period before Mitchell’s goal.

Leading in ground balls for the Saints was Mitchell with 6.  Schmidt finished 6/8 at the face off with 2 takes.  LSM Kenny Carr also recorded 2 takes.  In the cage, Mitch Marsh finished with 9 saves. Scoring for Williamsville North were Conor Murphy (5g), Tyler Zeplowitz (1g), Juan Antonetty (2g-1a), Brian Patterson (1g), Owen Cooney (1g), Joshua Dziama (1g).
