Thursday: Victor Remains Undefeated with 9-6 Win over Pittsford

-

The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6. The game lived up to the hype, playing before a large crowd and with officials who were very happy to let the two highly skilled teams play a high energy and physical game.

Finally, after so many nights of mismatches, there were other close games tonight as Thunder beat Brockport 10-9, Mynderse beat Midlakes 7-6, Waterloo defeated Newark 7-5, and McQuaid defeated Haverling 10-9. Other close games included Fairport over Canandaigua (8-4), Brighton over HFL (10-7) and Penfield over Thomas (18-13). Other winners today were Gananda, Penn Yan, Spencerport, Churchville-Chili, Hilton and Irondequoit.

--  SPORTSFIVE REPORT: The game has been drawing National attention for several weeks as the two undefeated and highly ranked teams were set to play tonight. Media filled the sidelines and the fans filled the stands at Victor highs school, where finding a parking spot was a sport in itself.

Victor scored five unanswered goals to take control of the game and defeat previously undefeated Pittsford 9-6. The Blue Devils and the Panthers have faced 10 times in the last 15 years with Pittsford leading the series 7-3. Victor has won the last two contests including last year's 10-9 win over the Panthers. With Victor moving from Class B to Class A this season, it seems likely that this will not be last time that these two powerhouse teams face.

Pittsford took an early lead. They ended the first quarter 3-1 and the half at 4-2. The Panthers had scoring from Connor Fitzgerald (2), Matt Malone and Jeremy Jacob. The lone Victor goal was scored by Mike DeMarco. The third quarter, as well as the entire second half, belonged to the Blue Devils. They scored the first four goals of the second half to lead 6-4. Pittsford got one goal in the third quarter before Victor added another three to take complete control of the game (9-5 with 7:37 left in the fourth). Pittsford scored the final goal with less than a minute on the clock
