-- In one of the most highly awaited games of the season, Penfield controlled nearly the entire game to hand Pittsford their first in-section, loss 7-5. The Patriots led 7-3 with less than one minute to play. Pittsford scored two goals in the final 0:34. Pittsford face off man Steven Ricci was a factor, going 81% and giving the Panthers a late attempt to tie the game. For the Patriots, the return of attackman Andrew Schoeneck helped them not only with points (3g) but also with control of the pace of the game.

Pittsford got on the board early with Ricci scoring unassisted only 0:29 into the game. Penfield scored the next five goals and held Pittsford scoreless for over twenty-six minutes. Penfield added all five of their goals in the second quarter. Schoeneck scored two with Ryan Fulton, Anthony Mitchell and Jake Sproule scoring the rest. Mitch Standera and Mitchell added one assist each in the streak. The Patriots led 5-1 going into halftime. Pittsford at Penfield

In the second half the game was closer with each team scoring two goals (prior to the final two goals by Pittsford). Brandon Barker scored the first of his two goals four minutes into the second half with an unassisted drive on the cage. Penfield kept their four goal lead when Jonathan Spaan assisted Sproule on his second goal of the game. On the next possession, Penfield was placed into the penalty box and Stephen Quinzi assisted Albie DiPasquale for the first of his two goals. The last three goals by the Panthers were all scored during extra-man offense. Penfield scored the final goal with 9:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. Standera recorded his second assist with a feed to Schoeneck.

The final minute of play saw a momentum shift towards the Panthers. Penfield was called for two concurrent penalties to give the Panthers a 6-4 situation. They converted with a second goal from DiPasquale. One of the penalties was non-releasable, so after Ricci won the draw, the Panthers were still 6-5. Barker scored his second goal with DiPasquale assisting. Once again Ricci won the draw and gave the Panthers another shot. With only 0:19 remaining they rushed the shot and it went wide. They had one more chance after another Penfield penalty, but they could not get a shot off.

In the cage for Pittsford, Kevin Maguire finished with 10 recorded saves (59%). Ricci led in ground balls with 11. DiPasquale added five and defenseman Cameron Pincus added five more. For Penfield, Liam Guiton finished with 13 saves (72%). Defenseman Nick Kimmins led with four ground balls. return to top
