Corining at Victor

--  The 9-4 Corning Hawks (Section IV) traveled to Victor for their third contest of the season against Section Five teams. In all three cases, the Hawks played a one goal game against the local boys. Victor came out on top today, winning 16-15. Corning had previously defeated Churchville-Chili (10-9) and lost to Pittsford (11-10).

Although the game was close, Victor only trailed for 1:19 out of the entire game. The game was tied four times and Victor led by three goals on three separate occasions. Victor controlled the game but could not finish the Hawks allowing them to keep fighting back. Corning`s Aidan Olmstead scored the opening goal 2:39 into the contest. He finished the game with 4g-1a for the Hawks. The Blue Devils scored the next four goals spanning four minutes to take their first three goal lead with 4:56 remaining in the opening quarter. Luke Bartkoski, Mike DeMarco, Jamie Trimboli and Dan Barrow each added one goal in the opening volley. The Blue Devils had eight players with offensive stats in the contest. Before the opening quarter concluded, the Hawks had fought back to a tie score. Victor added another two and Corning another one so the Blue Devils led 6-5 at the conclusion on the first quarter.

After being tied three times in the opening quarter, the game was only tied one more time (late in the second quarter at 9-9). The game continued with Victor scoring a goal or two and Corning fighting back to within a goal. With less than two minute in regulation, Victor led 14-13. The Blue Devils` Ryan Maloney scored the last two goals of the game for his team. The first, assisted by Jamie Trimboli, was scored with 1:57 remaining. Exactly one minute later he scored again, this time unassisted to give Victor it`s third three goal lead. A late penalty against the Blue Devils gave Corning a last shot. They scored two goals during the non-releasable penalty and were still man-up for the last 0:21 after their final goal.

One of the major factors in the win for the Blue Devils was their face-off midfielder. T.D. Ierlan finished at 81% (26/32). He finished with 25 non-technical wins and he picked up his own ground ball 20 times. He led the Blue Devils with 21 ground balls total. In the cage, Brennan Mackey finished with 3s/15ga for Victor. Corning`s Nick Nehring finished at 50% with 16s/16ga. Defenseman Austin Cates finished with eight ground balls to lead the Hawks. Nehring also finished with four ground balls.  return to top
