The Lightning outshot the Thunder 9-0 in the first quarter. They scored the only goal with an unassisted goal from Sergio Rosado. Rosado finished with 3g for the Lightning.
In the second quarter, the Thunder fought back and scored the first two goals. The first goal was scored in man-up offense. Anthony Merola scored the goal with an assist from Joey Fornataro. His goal was assisted by Nick Capone. With 3:00 remaining, Rosado scored his second goal to tie the game at 3-3. In the third quarter, Ath/Ody added two goals and held Arc/Oly to a single goal. The one goal made the difference in the final score. Athena scored first with Crowe's lone goal of the contest. One minute later Arc/Oly tied the game with a goal from attackman Connor May. Three minutes later, Merola scored his third goal of the contest with an assist from Torcha. The Thunder led 6-5 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter each team scored a single goal. Merola scored his first goal to open the quarter and give the Thunder their largest lead of the game (two goals). With 1:38 remaining, Rosado scored to bring the game within one, but it was the closest that the Lightning could get. They had one more shot on the cage, but freshman goalie Hunter Merola came up big to secure the win. Merola finished with 12 saves (67%) for the Thunder.

-- The sun shone brightly Thursday at Wayne Central's Porray Field, where the Eagles emerged victorious in an exciting back and forth game that could have gone to either team. The first quarter was tipped towards Waterloo, with the Indians taking 7 shots at Wayne goalie, Justin Townsend. At 9:46, the first shot of the game came from junior attackman Mike Wright and found its way past Townsend, with an assist from senior attackman Tim Brown. With under a minute remaining in the quarter, midfielder Brenn Solomon found freshman Kyle Lotz, who put in goal number two.
The second quarter was a different story, as Wayne's midfielders came alive and managed to capitalize on four of five shots on goal. In separate unassisted efforts, Sam Desiato and Cody Matteson each charged through the midfield and defense to put a shot between the pipes. Junior midfielder Trent Wyland twice delivered goals finding his way through Waterloo's defense, the second with only ten second left on the clock. The first half ended with Wayne up by two goals, 4-2.
The third quarter was a time of relative calm, with Waterloo closing the gap by one with an effort by senior attackman Tim Wright at 8:23, taking the score to 4-3. Exactly three minutes later, midfielder Desiato scored once again after bouncing off a few defenders like a pinball, and then added one more for Wayne, preserving their two goal lead at 5-3.
The last quarter saw the Indians turning up the effort. Only 34 seconds into the quarter, Waterloo's Tim Wright delivered a nice shot into the net, taking the Indians within striking distance (5-4). Every shot taken by Waterloo was a shot on goal but Wayne's goalie was able to stop most of them. Waterloo sophomore midfielder Patrick Sobus tied the game at 7:21 with an unassisted goal. For the next two minutes, the ball moved back and forth, as each team took shots, and the goalies cleared the ball. Finally, at 5:30 remaining, Wyland sent the ball to junior attackman Tim Oddi, who then launched it past Waterloo sophomore goalie Mark Campbell to secure a lead once again for the Eagles. Wayne continued to keep the Indians at bay, finishing the game ahead 6 to 5.
Campbell finished with six saves, (50%) and Townsend managed to stop 12 of 17 (70%). Waterloo Senior midfielder Alex Anderson totally dominated face offs in the game, winning 13 of 14.
