Thursday: Pittsford over McQuaid 7-6

There were 16 games in the Section today. Several were close and a number were not. Pittsford beat a determined McQuaid Jesuit 7-6. Waterloo beat Wayne 3-1. Mynderse beat the Pride 10-9 and Aquinas lost a heart-breaker to St. Joe's of Section VI. Churchville-Chili beat Gates Chili 6-2 on Senior Day. The other winners were Livonia, Fairport, Greece Arc/Oly, Penfield, Newark, Pal-Mac, Irondequoit,Canandaigua, Thomas, Geneva and Haverling.

-- Livonia shut down Bishop Kearney in the first and third quarter tonight leading to the Bulldogs' 19-4 win. Livonia Coach Brett Wood gave many players field experience tonight and he hopes the teams' strong play "continues the rest of the way heading into sectionals".
Leading the Bulldog's scoring were Cody Cisco (5g-3a), Wyatt Struble (2g-4a), Derek Bishop (3g-1a), Alex Chiara (2g-1a), and Dustin Ayers (2g-1a). Goaltenders Ethan Jamison (3s/1ga) and Troy Lischer (5s/3ga) each played a half of the game.
Scoring for Bishop Kearney were Andrew Chadwick (2g-2a), Dylan Miller (2g-1a), and Kyle Kuebler (1a). Andrew Barreca (13s/16ga) and Wyatt Flint (2s/3ga) each played half of the game between the pipes for the Kings.

-- Thirteen different Red Raiders made the offensive book this afternoon, as Fairport defeated visiting Brighton 13-1. Fairport scored six unanswered goals in the first half and added seven more in the second half. Leading the offensive effort were seniors Pat VanBortle with 3g-2a and Kyle Sterzin with 2g-1a. Shane Stickle won 11 of 14 face offs for Fairport. Senior goalies Blaze Riorden (3s/0ga) and Pete Gropp (3s/1ga) each played one half in the cage for the Red Raiders who remain undefeated at (11-0).
Brighton's lone goal came in the third quarter during a man-up set. Junior attackman Robert Haggerty scored on a feed from senior middie Sam Burgess. Senior goalie Tom Hilling was credited with 15 saves for the Barons.

-- Aquinas lost a close one tonight as they hosted St. Joseph Colligate Institute (Buffalo). The Marauders won the contest 6-5. St. Joe's scored the first goal of the game, but Aquinas came back with two goals in the last minute of the quarter to take a 2-1 lead. The Marauders came back with two unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a one goal lead at the half. Both teams scored one goal each in the first and two goals each in the fourth. Billy Lombardi tied the game at 5-5 with his unassisted goal just a minute into the final quarter. St. Joe's returned at 9:50 with an unassisted goal by Christian Curatolo. Alex Bianchi tied the game again with his goal, assisted by Lombardi, with 1:18 left in the game. But Nigel Davis scored the unassisted game winner with 0:24 left in the game. The Marauders won the face off and held on for the win.
Curatolo (2g) and Michael Hubert (2g) led the scoring for St. Joe's (7-4). St Joe's takes on Canisius on Tuesday.
Sophomore attackman Alex Bianchi led AQ with 3g. Lombardi (1g-1a) and Jake Vogl (2a) also contributed. Senior goalie Eric Wischmeyer recorded six saves for Aquinas (9-2). The L' il Irish travel to Pal-Mac on Saturday.

-- Penfield and Victor played a close first quarter, with the Patriots taking a 4-3 advantage. But in the second quarter they broke the score open with six unanswered goals on their way to a 16-5 victory on the road. Ten different Penfield players made the offensive scorebook led by senior midfielders Matt Bilak (4g-1a) and Matt Condon (2g-2a). Face off specialist Connor Russell won 14 of 18 face offs for Penfield. Senior midfield Dan Pulinski also had a good day for the Patriots winning 4 of six face offs for the Patriots. Senior goalie Keith Keehn made 6 saves (55%) for Penfield (7-4) who play Pittsford next Tuesday.
Senior midfielder John Maloney (3g) led the offensive book for the Blue Devils. Senior attackman Mitch Rupp finished the game with 1g-1a. Victor will host Brighton on Saturday.

-- Irondequoit had a very strong first half leading to a 16-2 win over Rush Henrietta. Irondequoit scored 12 of its 16 goals in the first half while keeping R-H away from the goal. But in the third quarter Rush Henrietta held Irondequoit scoreless until the Eagles finished off the game with four more goals in the fourth quarter. Thirteen Eagles contributed points to the game with Nick Doktor (1g-4a), George German (3g), Gunnar Miller (2g-1a), and Jake Schmidt (2g) leading the way. Irondequoit's Ben Brooks (11/14), Jimmy Paris (4/5) and Gunnar Miller (2/3) led the team in face offs. Eric Fischer (3s/0ga) and Alex Shoemaker (3s/2ga) each played a half in the goal for the Eagles.
Rush Henrietta scored one goal in each of the final two quarters. Nick Binnert scored both goals with Sean Tomkinson assisting one of them. Two goalies split the time between the pipes. McKenzie Spooner (8s-12ga) played the first three quarters and Jeff Delaney (1s-4ga) played the final quarter.

-- It was Churchville's senior night at Roberts Wesleyan College as they took on Gates Chili and delighted their fans with a 6-2 victory. Churchville started ten seniors with attackmen Dan Lohman, Jacob Bocianski, and middie Dan Schur registering their first career starts. Churchville's 14 seniors played the first half, with the regular starters playing in the second half.
It took most of the first quarter to see a goal scored. The lone Churchville score was by senior attackman Dan Lohman, who scored with 1:07 left in the quarter. The Saints took a two goal lead in the second quarter when Kevin O`Donnell scored, assisted by Pat Bonafede. The Spartans got on the scoreboard with 3:19 left in the half. Steve Hilsdorf scored his unassisted goal for Gates. The half ended after another goal from the Saints. Bonafede scored at 1:03 and the Saints left for the halftime break with a 3-1 lead.
The Saints scored three more goals in the third quarter, but only after Gates took the score to within one on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Ralph Taliento at 7:53. Sophomore attackman Trevor Hodgins scored an assisted goal at 6:24. Bonafede and O`Donnell, assisted by Aaron Buck added one goal each and the Saints had a 6-2 lead at the end of the third quarter. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Bonafede led the offensive book for Churchville with 2g-1a. Senior goalie Jack Corcoran had 4 saves (67%) for the Saints who improved the record to 9-1.
Gates Chili senior goalie Tyler Jacobson had an excellent game and recorded 21 saves (78%) for the Spartans (7-3).

-- Canandaigua took a strong beginning lead and continued their dominant play throughout the game to beat Schroeder 14-6. Thirteen Canandaigua players contributed offensive points for their team. Heading the list were Connor Moore (3g) and Brian Feldman, Eric Munn, Dan Lacrosse and Nick Como each scoring two goals. Canandaigua shut out Schroeder in the first two quarters. The score was 8-0 in favor of the Braves at the half.
Canandaigua continued to score during the second half although Schroeder was able to make the scoreboard. Schroeder's Coach McGurk noted that his team's first successful drive for the goal came from Mike Austin with an impressive split dodge. The Schroeder offense scored the following in the second half: Liam Wheatley (2g-1a), Nick Powell (1g), Nick Scarantino (1g), Mike Austin (1g), Jesse Caulkins (1g).
Nick Como won 8 of 10 face offs for the Braves. Two goalies split the game with Michael Cuciti (8s/2ga) who played 36 minutes and Anthony Laudisi (1s/4ga) who played 12 minutes between the pipes.
For Schroeder, Brett Zilliox went 10 for 14 (71%) on face offs and had 9 ground balls. Willie Klan played 36 minutes in the goal and had 9 saves and 14 goals against. Robbie Wielandt played 12 minutes and had 1 save, no goals against.

Junior midfielder Nick Weston scored a goal and added two assists and junior attackman Connor Flaherty scored two goals to lead the offensive book for the Cougars.

-- Geneva played a strong offensive game as they beat Marcus Whitman 14-3. Leading the scoring for Geneva were Sean Cunningham (5g-3a), Ed Eddington (4g), Drew Feinberg (3g), and Fran Shaw (2g). In the cage for Geneva were Derek Grillone (9s/3ga) in 42 minutes of play and Jake Sahrle (2s/0ga) in 6 minutes of play.
Marcus Whitman scored one goal in each of the first three quarters. The points were credited to Matt Hey (2g), Karl Gray (1g,1a) and Clay Wilson (2a). Marcus Whitman goaltender Merritt Bailey played the entire game and had 8 saves and 14 goals against. Neither team is scheduled to play on Saturday.

-- In a very low scoring game, Waterloo beat Wayne 3-1. According to Wayne Central's Coach Ugine, " Both goalies played very well. It was a very competitive atmosphere throughout the entire game." Coach Ugine also indicated that Waterloo used an affective zone defense that limited Wayne's efforts to dodge to the goal.
Scoring for Waterloo were Tim Wright (1g-1a), Mike Wright (1g), Tim Brown (1g), and Blain Covey (1a). Goaltender Josh Bailey had 7 saves and 1 goal against during a full 48 minutes of playing time.
Wayne's lone goal was scored by Salvatore Desiato, assisted by Trent Wyland. Goalie Seth Ambroz (16g-3a) played the entire game in the cage.

-- Mynderse and Bloomfield-Honeoye played a close game tonight. The Pride led for most of the game. But Mynderse tied the game with 3:48 on a goal by Justin Hlywa and then won the game on a goal by Aaron Peterman with 0:19 left in the game. The final score was 10-9.
Hlywa and Sean Anderson led the Blue Devils with 4g each. Junior goalie Tim Trickler was credited with 21 saves (72%) for Mynderse.
Leading the offensive book for the Pride were Jarrett Hertzel (4g-1a) and Jason Jones (3g).

-- At a 6:30 game tonight, Pal-Mac outscored Gananda in every quarter and ended with a 13-4 win. Eight Pal-Mac Raiders scored with Kyle Ludwig (5g-2a), Ben Reeves (3g-3a) and David Ellsworth (2g) leading the way. The Raiders goaltender Cody Rogers played the entire game and recorded 12 saves and 4 goals against. Granada was scoreless in the first period.
Attackmen Ian Palmer (2g), Kyle Friesner (2g), and defenseman Dylan Joy (1a) recorded offensive points for Gananda. Goaltender Steven Fisher (13s-13ga) played the entire 48 minutes for Gananda.

-- Pittsford squeaked through another win tonight as they relied on one of Corey Parke's four goals in the game to beat McQuaid Jesuit 7-6. After a 3-3 tie at halftime, and then a 5-5 tie after three quarters, the Panthers scored first in the last quarter. Parke scored at 7:37, assisted by Nino DiPasquale for a short-lived lead. McQuaid came back to tie the game at 6:13 when Alex Paroda scored his unassisted goal. Both teams had shots on cage in the closing minutes, but they were turned away by Pat Sheridan (McQuaid) and Kyle Lake (Pittsford), With 1:55 left in the game, Parke scored the winning goal for the Panthers (9-1).
Parke led the offense for the Panthers with 4g. Stephen Quinzi had 2g and Nino DiPasquale ended the game with 1g-1a. His goal was assisted by his brother Albie (1a).

-- Haverling traveled to East Rochester tonight to grab a 10-8 win. After a strong 4-1 first quarter, the Rams let the Bombers back into the game in the second quarter. Haverling maintained a 6-5 lead at the halftime break. East Rochester picked up two unanswered goals in the third quarter but a strong fourth quarter effort gave the Rams the win. Certainly a key element in their win was the excellent face off work by sophomore midfielder Mitch Fuller who won 10 or 14 face offs.
Leading the offensive effort for the Rams were senior middies Jeff Chapman (3g-2a) and Justin Gavette (2g). Fuller added 2g along with senior defenseman Trevor Lang. Senior goalie Andrew Clark made 10 saves (56%).
Junior attackman Ray Shalvoy had an impressive 6g-1a to lead the Bombers. Senior attackman Jordan Michele added 1g-4a. Splitting time in the goal were Jonathan Caton (7s/6ga=54%) and Liridon Dervisholli (8s/4ga=67%).

-- Newark won an 8-4 victory over host Midlakes this afternoon. After scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter, the play was much more even during that last thirty-six minutes. Omar Jaohar has an noteworthy performance of 4g-2a as he led the Reds in offense. Dominic Camblin had 14s/3ga.
