The following year Jake was named to the Monroe County All League second team for his defensive play. Brighton's Assistant Lacrosse Coach, Jody Rose, met Jake in the 2009 season. "The kid is a warrior, he never gives up. He's the toughest kid I have ever coached and the nicest. After graduation, Jake joined the United States Marine Corps. A few weeks ago, Jake was deployed to Afghanistan. Coach Rose added: "I feel safer just knowing Jake is a Marine."

When news of Jake's deployment reached the Brighton lacrosse community, Will's community service project was embraced by both players and parents. With Jake as the standard bearer, Brighton boys' lacrosse is collecting a wide range products to make overseas duty a bit easier. Jake's influence is felt by the Barons.
