Two games were canceled due to field conditions or weather but a number of the five games that were played were interesting and exciting. Fairport traveled to Jamesville-DeWitt of Section 3 where they suffered their first loss of their season 8-4. Penn Yan won a close one with visiting Penfield, 6-4. Hilton was a winner by two in their 9-7 victory over Schroeder. Irondequoit also won by two with a 8-7 win at Aquinas and Geneva was a big winner with a 17-2 game over visiting Waterloo.

  --  Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3 - Syracuse) held Fairport scoreless in the first half while scoring two of their own and then won both the third and fourth quarters 3-2 to win 8-4.

J-D, the top-ranked NYS team in this week's New York States Sportswriters Association poll, was led in offense by Jordan Evans (4g), Deke Burns (1g-2a) and McLaren Brady (2g). Dan DiStefano recorded 14 saves (78%) in the pipes for the Rams (5-0).

Stephen Danylyshyn scored 2g-1a, James Manilla scored 2g-1a and Jerry Warner added an assist. Blaze Riorden made 7 saves for the Red Raiders (6-1) who face Webster Thomas on Monday.   return to top

  --  Penn Yan scored the first goal of the game and never trailed in their 6-4 win over Penfield. The Mustangs' Bradley Voigt scored the opening goal with 1:01 remaining in the first quarter. Voigt's goal was assisted by Ryan Maciejewski. Penn Yan finished the first quarter leading 1-0.

In the second quarter, Penn Yan added two goals while holding the Patriots to one goal. 1:41 into the second quarter, Anthony Luppino scored unassisted for the Mustangs. Less than a minute later, Penfield scored their first goal. Matt Bilak assisted Dan O'Brien. The final goal of the quarter gave Penn Yan a two goal lead. Voigt added his second goal of the night (unassisted). The second quarter ended with Penn Yan leading 3-1.

In the third quarter, the Mustangs added another two goals. Voigt scored his third goal with an assist from Dylan Yonts during man-up. Penfield's second goal was the opposite of the first with O'Brien assisting Bilak. Rion Davison added his lone goal of the game with 1:50 remaining in the quarter after receiving an assist from Luppino. Penn Yan held a three goal lead after three quarters (5-2).

Penfield came close to a comeback in the final quarter. Matt Condon scored with 10:52 remaining during a man-up opportunity for the Patriots. Alex Miles added his lone goal of the game with an assist from Andrew Huntington only 0:35 later. The Patriots brought the game within one goal; however, they could not tie the score. Penn Yan added the final goal of the game with a man-up goal from Luppino (assisted by JJ Voigt).

Connor Russell finished the game 12/13 at the draw. Russell also finished with a team leading 12 ground balls. Matt Springer and Andrew Huntington each added four ground balls as well. In the cage, Keith Keehn played the entire game for the Patriots and finished with one goal. For Penn Yan, Brandon Maciejewski finished with 10 saves.   return to top

  --  Hilton defeated Webster Schroeder 9-7 this afternoon. The Cadets held a 9-4 lead in the fourth quarter before the Warriors scored the final three goals of the game. The last two Warrior goals were scored in the final 90 seconds.

Schroeder scored the first goal with an unassisted goal from Kenny Nelson with 9:41 remaining in the first quarter. Hilton scored two unassisted goal before the end of the first quarter. Shane Endres and Harald Juergens each added one goal. Schroeder scored the first goal of the second quarter with an unassisted goal from Tyler Mason and tied the game at 2-2. Hilton's offense kicked it into gear and scored the next five goals. Four of the goal were added before the half; giving the Cadets the 6-2 lead.

In the third quarter, Hilton finished their scoring streak with a man-up goal from Derek Richards. Schroeder's Nelson added his second goal with 5:45 remaining. Forty seconds later Hilton added the last goal of the third quarter with an unassisted goal from Jake Montgomery. Schroeder won the final quarter, scoring four of five goals; however it was not enough for the win.

In the cage, Schroeder split goalies at the half with Eric Saltrelli and Nick Russo both seeing time. Saltrelli finished with six saves and Russo with seven. For Hilton, Matt Detroia played the entire game and finished with 15 saves.   return to top

  --  The Geneva Panthers scored six goals in the first quarter and added another four before the half on their way to a 17-2 win over visiting Waterloo. The Indians saw goals by Cody Riegel and Elliott Messmer in the first quarter, but Geneva goalies Derek Grillone and Tom Lynch shut out Waterloo in the last three quarters.

Matt Miller (4g-2a), Will Brennan (4g-2a) and Billy Eddington (4g-1a) were on the top of the Geneva scorebook. Geneva (3-2) plays Canandaigua on Tuesday.
