Chris Mekeel Selects Clarkson University

April 12, 2015 - Avon Head Coach Erik Schneider recently announced that senior defenseman Chris Mekeel will be studying and playing lacrosse at Clarkson University after his graduation this spring.

Chris is a three year varsity player with the Braves who has played both as a defenseman and a long stick midfielder and with 2g-9a has demonstrated his comfort on the offensive end of the field. He is a three year captain for Avon.

In the off season he has played on the Nike rising junior team and the Green Machine U-19 summer team and the NE FCA Elite Silver team. He also has been successful as a football linebacker and a swimmer at Avon.

The Golden Knights are members of the Liberty League, playing in the NCAA Division III program. They are coached by Bill Bergan, a product of West Genesee High school and Hobart College. Current Section Five alumni include Keith Mierzwa (Fairport) along with Alex Kober and Matt Gold from Pittsford.
