Friday: Penfield and Irondequoit win today

Penfield scored the first seven goals on their way to an 18-4 win at Gates Chili tonight. In the other Friday night contest, Irondequoit beat visiting HFL 9-5.

-- Penfield scored the first eleven goals of the contest on their way to an 18-4 win over Gates-Chili. The Patriots scored ten goals in the first quarter and held the Spartans scoreless until 7:45 remaining in the second quarter.
The Spartans had four players make the scorebook with Grant Ferguson scoring two goals to lead. Tyler Web and Brian Eckam each added one goal.
For Penfield nine players scored at least one point. Leading the charge for the Patriots were Tucker Nelson (2g-6a), Matt Bilak (3g-1a) and Alex Miles (3g-1a).
The Patriots played two goalies with Jamie Solomon starting the game and finishing with four saves and four goals against and Keith Keehn finishing the game with four saves. Junior Brian Lane played the entire game for the Spartans and finished with 13 saves. Penfield's Connor Russell finished with a 70% draw rating at the face-off and a team leading 11 ground balls. Gates-Chili's face-off man, Pete DiLaura, also led his team in ground balls with nine.

-- Irondequoit defeated HFL 9-5 in a second evening game tonight. The Eagles scored three goals in the first, second and fourth quarters; winning each. The Cougars scored the lone goal of the third quarter. Irondequoit's scoring was led by Nick Doktor (3g-1a) and Mike Utz (3g). Greg Coholan led in shots with nine shots (five on cage).
For the Cougars, Nick Weston (2g), Eric Boike (2g) and Mickey Allan (2a) led. Boike took the most shots for HFL with nine (four on cage). Face-off man Jordan Gushue finished the game at 63% (10/16).
Defenseman Keanan O'Brien led in ground balls with four; Jim Burgasser, Weston, Allan, Gushue and Jeff Roth all had three ground balls for the Cougars. For Irondequoit, defenseman Colby Wehner, goalie Tyler Nash and midfielder Coholan all led in ground balls for the Eagles with three each. Nash finished with seven saves for the Eagles. HFL's Jay Tallon finished with 11 saves.
