Last Two Games

May 24, 2008 - It was "Make Up Day" and with the relatively good weather this season, there were only two games to be made up. The Webster braggin' rights went to Thomas who defeated Schroeder 10-3. Haverling finished up with an 8-6 victory over Midlakes.
    

Thomas 10 - Schroeder 3

 In a close game emotons always run high. but when it's the last game of the regular season and both teams come from Webster and with Sectional seeding on the line, emotions really run high. Although a very close game for most of the first half, Thomas took control and scored five goals in a row to take a 7-3 lead after three and end the game up 10-3.
  
The game was dominated by excellent defensive play by both teams, although, in the end, the agressiveness of the Thomas defense (particularly Jake Ziegler, Andrew Glagolev and Mason Hill), and some fantastic saves by goalie James O`Neil created the ball time for the Titan offense to open up the game.
  
The majority of the first quarter saw patient offenses by both teams that meant moving the ball around the outside with a few aborted drives. The defenseive units, also being patient, waited for opportunities to get possession of the ball. Clears were largely successful and the ball went back and forth. The first goal wasn't scored until Schroeder's Chris Mason beat two Thomas defensers and bounced the ball over Scott Tota's shoulder. A minute and a half later, Thomas tied the score on an unassisted goal by defenseman Jake Ziegler who on a clear, took the ball all the way to the goal. The quarter ended with the teams tied at one.
  
A change in defensive intensity took place in the sceond quarter as Thomas became more aggressive on the ball and Schroeder sagged off more, preventing, for the most part, inside feeds, but giving the Titan offense more ball time on the outside, but liomiting the number of shots taken. At 9:38, JT Hauck received the ball out front (from Max Gurowski) and with a powerful sidearm shot scored off skip hip. After more transition and with 2:43 left in the half, Schroeder had a goal from Chris Mason (unassisted) with a drive from top left. Thomas returned with two quick goals to end the half. Nick Scalzo took a feed from William Gurowski, bulled his way into the high crease under heavy pressure and hip-checked the defender to get enough room to should around him.
  
On the next face off, Schroeder won the ball, but Thomas took it away and started up field on the sprint. Kyle LaVallee received the ball from Kenny Tomeno and after dodging one outside defenseman, took a bounce shot that scored. Schroeder was hit with and illegal check penalty. After the face off Jack Hinderland got the ball for Thomas and after beating an outside defended took a beautiful shot that was saved by Tota. Thomas broke the clear and Hinderland had another shot which bounced off the goal. The half ended with Thomas up 4-2, but with both teams playing like winners.
  
In the third quarter, Thomas took control, scoring three lone goals while behaving more like there were the better team. Schroeder was still very much in the game, but the Titans began to behave like they were in control. Hinderland, who was still bothered by his two missed goals at the end of the half, scored the first goal in the second half. After cutting to the crease, her recievd the ball, but found no shot. On his way "to daylight" he turned and scored at 11:13. Kenny Thomeno added a garbage goal at 9:04 after a save by Tota bounced in front of the cage. Nick Scalzo received a cross crease pass from Gurowski at 7:44 giving the titans a 7-2 third quarter lead.
  
The Warriors scored early in the fourth quarter when Cody Consul received and pass from Pete Noto behind the cage. While the Schroeder defense was still in sag off, they ran a shutoff against Gurowski that was successful in keeping him from the scorebook at that point, but the Titans, simply used other players to get the job done. There was a generaly lack of urgency by the Warriors on both ends of the field. Kyle LaVallee scored with an assist from Scalzo in man up at 8:27. They scored again at 6:30 while man down. Gurowski took the ball from out of bounds and was doubled by Schroder, While running from the double whe found Pat Morrill who quickly moved the ball to Scalzo on the crease who faked high and shot low on Tota. Schroeder started to pick up a number of penalties at this point, and although Thomas was content with ball possession rather than shots. Hinderland found Kyle Rothfuss on the inside for another Titan goal at 2:17 which ended the scoring.
  
Scoring for Thomas were Nick Scalzo (3g-1a), Kyle LaVallee (2g), Max Gurowski (2a), Kenny Tomeno (1g-1a), Jack Hinderland (1g-1a), single goals by Jake Ziegler, JT Hauck and Kyle Rothfus and a single assist by William Gurowski and Pat Morrill. James O'Neil had 9s/3ga for Thomas who finish the regular season at 12-7.
  
Scoring for Schroeder were Chris Mason (2g), Cody Consul (1g) and Pete Noto (1a). Scott Total had 9s/10ga for the Warriors who end their season at 8-8.
    

Haverling 8 - Midlakes 6

 In there final regular season games, Haverling defeated Midlakes 8-6. Each team scored three goals in the first quarter, but Haverling scored three unanswered goals in the second and lead at the break 6-3. Midlakes came back scoring two unanswered goals in the third. At the start of the final quarter Haverling was up 6-5. Midlakes added one goal and Haverling added two goals for the win and a record of 9-8 while the Eagles end at 8-10.
  
Scoring for Haverling were Zach Reed (1g-3a), Dave Harris (2g-1a), Nick Rossi (2g), Mckenzie Durham (1g-1a), Andy Nesbitt (1g) and Cole Beebe (1g). Chris Wolfer finished with 18s/6ga.
  
Scoring for Midlakes were Nick Newland (5g), Tyler Brook-Lambert (3a), Ben Uveges (1g-1a) and Conor Hogan (1a). Jared Schoonerman recorded 15s/8ga.
