July 27, 2007 - New York City’s Max Van Bourgondien scored the opening goal with 9:10 remaining. Forest Sonnenfeldt and Julian Musikant each scored one goal in the opening quarter. Additionally, Van Bourgondien added one assist to Musikant’s goal. As the first quarter came to a close NYC had a 3-0 lead.
The second quarter belonged to Hudson Valley who controlled the quarter scoring four goals while holding NYC to zero. Rocky Bonitatibus, Scott Morell, Kevin Gordon and Joe Marasco each scored unassisted goals for Hudson Valley during the second quarter. Gordon’s goal was a face-off fast-break as he picked up the wing ground ball from teammate Tyler Granelli. Marasco’s goal was scored after a pick behind the cage allowed him to cut around front uncontested. By the half-time break, Adirondack had fought back to take the 4-3 lead.
Quarter three saw the return of NYC to the offensive spotlight. Musikant and Sonnenfeldt each scored their second goals along with Parker Roe with an assist from Sonnenfeldt. NYC reclaimed the lead 6-4 after three quarters.
The final quarter belonged to Hudson Valley as they scored the only three goals. Morell scored two and assisted on one, while Shane Ferguson scored one and assisted one. The last goal was attributed to Marasco.
Each of the four goalies played 22 minutes. Michael Brockway faced 10 shots with 6 saves (60%) and Ben Feldberg faced 11 shots and have 7 saves (64%) for New York City. In the nets for Hudson Valley were Michael Bonitatibus and Chris Latino. Bonitatibus only faced 4 shots making 1 save (25%) and Latino faced 9 shots recording 6 saves (66%).
At face-offs, Tyler Granelli dominated for the Valley, winning 14/17 (82%).
This game was the closest of all Friday’s games with the score going back and forth and at any point, the winner was still in question. There were strong performances in all areas and from both teams. After three games, NYC had the second highest combined goalie average at 60% only behind Long Island at 60.61%. Starting out well in each of their games, NYC has been outscored 11-1 in the fourth quarter over the course of three games.
