Tuesday - Schroeder over Penfield by One
May 15, 2007 - In the last week of the regular season, the MC league is nearly finished and there was lots of action today. Winners included Fairport, Schroeder, Spencerport, Eastridge, Irondequoit, Churchville, Hilton, Brockport, Newark, Waterloo, Livonia, Geneva and Canandaigua.
Fairport defeated Pittsford 15-8 in a Monroe County Division-1 battle.
Pittsford started off strong, scoring the first two goals at 8:47 and 7:24. Conor McDermott was first as he drove from behind. McDermott dove into the crease, but slipped the ball past the inside to score. The second goal was a split dodge by Cam Edmiston with a shot to the lower left. Overall Pittsford had many opportunities, but could not capitalize. Pittsford took 39 shots but only hit the cage on 14 of them (36% on cage). Kristoffer Sterzin played most of the game for the Red Raiders and finished with 5s/8ga (38%). The Red Raiders took 45 shots with 31 on cage (69%). Junior goalie Brendan Green was just over 50% with 16s/15ga (52%).
Fairport scored the last two goals of the first quarter at 2:03 and 1:24. The first was scored by Tom Rynn with his usual sweep across the top and a side-arm shot that rocketed past Green (stick-side high). The latter was scored by Martin Manilla after a shot by Eric Hislop bounced in front of the cage. The first quarter ended 2-2.
The rest of the game was all Fairport. The Red Raiders outscored the Panthers 4-2 in the second quarter. Scoring first was Eric Martin who scored stick-side after a cross-crease pass by Shawn Runyon. Martin led all scorers with 3g-3a during the game. Runyon led the Red Raiders in shooting taking 9s/5on. Joining Runyon were Rynn 9s/5on/3g, Mike Danylyshyn 9s/7on/3g, Brendan Saylor 5s/4on/3g and Martin 4s/4on/3g. Additionally both shots taken by Martin Manilla were goals. The total shooting for Fairport was 45s/31on/15g.
Pittsford scored the next goal at 8:54 to tie the game again at 3-3. The goal was scored after Doug Milano-Johnson fed Brett Bridges from behind during an extra-man opportunity. Bridges was one of the leading shooters for the Panthers with 10s/4on/3g. Along with Bridges were Chris Kist 13s/4on/2g, McDermott 7s/3on/1g, and Milano-Johnson 5s/2on/1g.
Fairport took control at this point, scoring the next three goals. The Red Raiders scored at 6:06, 4:53 and 2:48. The first goal was scored by Rynn who took a hard side-arm shot. The second goal was scored as Runyon passed to a diving Saylor near the crease. The final goal was scored by Danylyshyn (assisted by Martin). Martin passed the ball into the crease where Danylyshyn was waiting, he then jumped and spun, shooting the ball high and off-stick. The Panthers scored the final goal of the half at 1:12 as Bridges scored again. Bridges took on three different players after a straight drive from the top. The score at the half was 6-4 Fairport.
Fairport opened up the scoring in the second half with goals at 11:34 and 10:51. The first goal was a cross-crease feed by Rynn to Saylor. The second was scored as Martin took the ball himself from behind and slipped the ball into the side of the cage. The Panthers returned with the next two goals. The first goal was scored by Milano-Johnson who took the ball on a one-on-one drive and shot the ball just below Sterzin's stick. The next goal was scored with a side-arm shot by Kist (assisted by Bridges). The score was 8-6 Fairport.
The Red Raiders scored the next two goal; the first was scored by Danylyshyn who took a high drive from behind and spun back (shot off-stick). The next Red Raider goal was scored at 3:26 as Martin found John McDonnell across the crease for the open shot. The Panthers scored again as Bridges scored unassisted again. The time he started a sweep from right to left, but upon turning back slipped in the grass along with his defenseman as well). which allowed him to reset and shoot a side-arm shot to the upper-left of the cage. The last goal of the third quarter was scored by Rynn (from Martin) with a stick-side top-shelf side-arm shot from outside. The score was 11-7 after three quarters.
Fairport out scored Pittsford 4-1 in the fourth quarter. Saylor scored with an assist by Rynn at 11:02. The scoring continued with a one-on-one drive by Martin at 10:18. Two minutes later Danylyshyn added another when he picked up a ground ball at the midfield and took it all the way down into the goal. Pittsford's lone goal of the fourth came at 6:10 as Kist scored his second of the game (assisted by Bridges) with a bounce shot from outside. The final goal of the game was scored as Saylor and Manilla both drove to the crease. Saylor, with the bal, waited for the slide and then found Manilla open directly across the crease.
Rynn was the winner at the "face-off X", taking 12/14 (86%).
Scoring for Fairport were Martin (3g-3a), Rynn (3g-2a), Saylor (3g-1a), Danylyshyn (3g), Manilla (2g), Runyon (2a), McDonnell (1g). Matthew Hurley finished the game for the Red Raiders (8-6) playing four minutes and recording 1s.
Scoring for Pittsford were Bridges (3g-2a), Kist (2g), Milano-Johnson (1g-1a), Edmiston (1g) and McDermott (1g). The Panthers are now 4-7
Waterloo went right to work, scoring 4 goals to 2 in the first quarter and 5-4 at the half on their way to a 9-5 win against Mynderse in Finger Lakes-2 action today.
Scoring for the Indians were Jeff Wadhams (2g), Peter Vacca (2g-1a), Mike Ruiz (2a), Josh Mateo (2g), Curtis Brosius (2g), Nelson Boyd (1g-1a) and Chance Lowry (1a). Shawn Andrus had 19 s/5ga (79%) for Waterloo (7-10).
Scoring for Mynderse were Chris D'Amato (1a), Anthony Clark (1g), Dustin Luckinbill (2g), Josh Kurdziolek (1g), Kevin McCulley (1g), Mike Sanderson (1a). Tony Pallidino had 9s/9ga for Mynderse (3-12). No report from Mynderse.
In another exciting MC-1 division game, it was Schroeder the 11-10 eventual winner over host Penfield. The Warriors took the first quarter lead with goals by Catalino and Tota, while Kyle Vanthof scored the first of his 4g-3a at 5:02. The Patriots scored five goals in the second quarter, while holding Schroeder to two and led at the halftime break 6-4. Penfield scored three more in the third, but Webster scored four and then took the final quarter three goals to one for the win.
Scoring for Schroeder were Mike Barilla, Grant Catalino (2g-3a), Mike Tota (5g), Austin Orsini (1g-1a), Steve Sullivan (1g), Nick Mooney (1g) and Andy WInslow (2a). Zack Marshal recorded 7s/10ga for the Warriors (13-2).
Scoring for Penfield were Paul Leonard (1g), Kyle Vanthof (4g-3a), James Dwyer (2a), Alex Nowak (1g), Kevin Green (2g), Kevin Roe (1g), Dan Huntington (1g-1a) and Kyle Denhoff (1a). No report from Penfield.
Eastridge battled back from a 4-2 deficit at half. Todd Horne scored the winning goal with 0:20 seconds left in the game to give the Lancers a 9-8 victory over host HFL.
Scoring for the Lancers were Brandon Moynihan (2g-1a), Matt Driffill (1g-1a), Alex Austin (3g-2a), Kevin Mahler (1g), Todd Horne (1g-2a), and Shane Driffill (1g-1a). Eugene Ferrera made 21s/8ga (73%) for Eastridge (10-5).
Scoring for HFL were Zach Whyte (3g-1a), Cade Norris (2g), Ian Griffin (2g), Jason Camillo (1g), Kalika Dachtler (2a) and Mike Coady (1a). Pat Roache made 14s/9ga (61%) for the Cougars (3-11).
It was Spencerport with a 13-3 win over Batavia in MC-3 play.
Scoring for the Rangers were Pat Decker (4g-1a), Jon Robinson (3g), Jeff Konko (2g), Kyle Breach (2a), Justin Putt (1g-1a), Phil Schmid (1g), Luciano Petrella (1g), Roger Youmans (1g) and Sean DeMers (1a). Mike Palvino started in goal and played the first half. recording 10s/1ga (91%). Brad O'Keefe finished the game with 4s/3ga (57%) for Spencerport (5-10).
Scoring for Batavia were Zach Fay (1g-1a), Will Mulcahy (1g), Joe Muoio (1a) and Josh Morgan (1g). Matt Landfried had 16 saves/13ga (55%) for the Blue Devils.
"Run-'n-Gun" was the name of the game at Sperry High School as Irondequoit claimed a 12-7 win over host Rush-Henrietta in MC-1 action today.
The Eagles scored first on an unassisted goal by Drew Coholan, the first of his five goals, just 1:25 into the game. His cut from behind the cage, duplicated a number of times in the game, gave him a one-on-one with R-H goalie, Matt McShea who made 10 saves in the game. R-H returned less than a minute later when Brian Hantzis pressed his defenseman, who fell and allowed Hantzis to take a few steps closer to the goal before scoring with a hard outside shot.
After a number of trips up and down the field, Andrew Hart scored the first of his 3g-4a after beating his defenseman behind the cage and sprinting to the goal before R-H could find a slide. A minute later he repeated the play, this time from a slow break clear. At 1:19, McShea set up a beautiful fast break with a pin-point pass to his attackman and after three well placed passes, the shot was stopped by Irondequoit goalie, Zach Nash. Justin Rose, who scored five of the Royal Comets' seven goals, ended the first quarter with a drive from the left front. The quarter ended with the Eagles up 3-2.
Irondequoit scored the first three goals in the second quarter. Coholan scored at 10:43 with a bounced shot. Hart added another at 9:30 on a give and go from Wright who scored the third goal with an assist from Hart. Rose broke the streak for R-H with and unassisted goal, again with a drive from the top of the box. Coholan ended the half with two more goals. The first was scored while five-on-five and the second was scored with an inside feed from Hart. The half ended with the Eagles up 8-3.
There were only three goals scored in the third quarter. Rose produced the first with the same cut from the front left and a shot high and on stick side. Wright scored with an assist from Hart and Nate Delone scored for RH with 0:12 left in the quarter.
Rush-Henrietta scored directly from the face-off at the start of the last quarter. Justin Rose picked up the ground ball from his face-off and ran right to the goal, scoring at 11:49. Irondequoit returned with the same play at 11:14 by Tim Kleehammer. After a great deal of transition Coholan scored another unassisted goal for the Eagles at 4:27. Kleehammer scored the last goal for Irondequoit with a feed from Hart at 2:53. Rose scored his fifth goal at 2:40, again from a drive from front left.
Scoring for Irondequoit were Drew Coholan (5g), Hart (3g-4a), Wright (2g-1a) and Tim Kleehammer (2g). Zach Nash had 9s/7ga (56%) for the eagles (13-2).
Scoring for Rush-Henrietta were Rose (5g), Hanztis (1g) and Moran (1g). Mat McShea had 10s/12ga for the Royal Comets (8-6).
Livonia took control early, scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter and adding five more before entering the halftime break with a 9-1 lead and a 16-1 victory over host, Midlakes.
Scoring for Livonia were Tyler Russell (4g-3a), Brian Sciera (4g), Chris Bausch (3g-1a), Jeff Wester (1g-3a), Cameron Ross (2a), Matt Girolmo (1g-1a), Oren Taylor (1g-1a), Gaelin Walsh (1g) and Aaron Miller (1g). Justin Becker gad 14s/1ga for the Bulldogs (11-5).
Scoring for Midlakes were Conor Hogan (1a), Glen Stevenson (1g), Tyler Brooks-Lambert (1a), Nick Newland (2g), Ben Uveges (1g-1a). Jared Schoonerman had 10s/16ga for the Eagles (7-9).
On a night where Churchville-Chili's 14 Seniors and their parents were honored, the Saints got their 13th win with an 18-2 victory against Greece Athena/Odyssey. The Saints controlled the game throughout with a 57-23 advantage in ground balls, 40-15 shots and 17 of 24 (71%) face-off wins.
Sean Kettles played 3 quarters (4 saves, 2 goals against) before giving way to Adam DiFulvio in the 4th quarter (1 save) for the Saints (13-2).
Once again, attempting to get an assist with every goal, the Saints managed 12 assists for their 18 goals.
Scoring for Churchville-Chili were Senior Attackman, Ryan Grogan (7g-3a) to lead the Saints with 10 points. Jamie Englert (1g, 2a), Doug Hemink (2g, 1a) and Ben Rossignolo (2g, 1a) each had 3 points. Cory Mee (2g), Jon Hemink (2a), Gino Marcello (1g, 1a) and Kevin Conway (1g, 1a) each had 2 points. David Terrell (1a), Matt Carey (1g) and Brian Traugott (1g) closed out the scoring as 11 Saints made the score book tonight. No report was received from Greece Ath/Ody.
Hilton defeated Brighton 13-4 this evening after the game was called for lightning with 2:23 remaining.
Hilton opened up the scoring just two minutes into the game with an outside bounce shot by Kyle Hayward (assisted by Alex Wood). Wood led all players with 3g-2a and Hayward scored the most goals (4g). Brighton retaliated only 0:34 seconds later as Taylor Galbraith scored using his own bounce shot. Hilton finished up the scoring in the first quarter with Wood scoring. Wood drove from the right side of the cage and after taking on two different players, shot and scored stick-side. The score after the first was 2-1 in favor of Hilton.
Hilton outscored the Barons 4-1 in the second quarter. The Cadets opened up the scoring when after James Moss' shot was saved, Wood picked up the ground ball and scored his second goal of the game. The lone Baron goal of the quarter came at 8:04 as Ryan Conti scored (assisted by Tim Williams). Williams fought hard for a ground ball which he then passed to Conti who was waiting on the crease. Hilton scored the next six goals (three in this quarter and three in the next). The first was scored by Hayward who took a hard shot at senior goalie Noah Berg's legs and and scored. Berg finished the game with 10s/13ga (43%). After another three minutes the Barons were called for "too many men on the field" and the Cadets went man-up. The Cadets scored as Mike Crumlish drove straight into the goal. The Cadets scored 2 of 5 (3.5 minutes) during man-up (as well as one goal during man-down). The Barons scored on 2 of 11 (9.5 minutes). The last goal of the first half was assisted by Wood as junior Jay Clifford scored after a cut from the top. The feed occurred half-way between the restraining line and the goal. The score was 6-2 at the half.
Hilton's scoring streak continued with three more goals at 11:16, 8:13 and 5:30. The first was a rocket shot by Hayward (off-stick low). The second occurred after the Cadet's were man-down for two minutes. The Barons could not capitalize but then after an offsides call against the Barons the Cadets struck when Wood found Hayward open on the crease. The third Hilton goal was scored by James Moss (assisted by Clifford) during a fast-break. Brighton came back with two goals in extra-man. The first was at 1:38, as Williams scored after an inside dodge. The second was scored by Dan Hill who swatted at a pass by Conti that found its way past senior goalie Aaron Donahey. Donahey (whose celebrated his birthday today) finished the game with 7s/4ga (64%). Hilton scored the last goal of the quarter with only 0:13 remaining when Colin Walker scored after a ground ball pickup on the crease. The score after three quarters was Hilton 10-4.
The fourth quarter was all Hilton who scored three goals before the game was called. The first goal was scored during a two minute man down situation (one minute slash, one minute unsportsmanlike conduct). Walker scored on the crease assisted by Moss and Troy Johnson scored with a one-on-one drive straight down the center. The final goal of the game occurred at 3:25 as Wood scored after picking up a rebound (original shot by Walker).
Jeff DeLong finished the game with 11/16 (69%) wins at the face-off. DeLong won eight of his eleven face-off wins by himself. The shooting for the Cadets were led by Hayward 7s/7on/4g, Walker 5s/3on/2g, Moss 4s/3on/1g and Wood 4s/3on/3g. The total shooting for Hilton was 29s/23on/13g. Leading the shooting for the Barons were Williams 6s/2on/1g, Justin Hillery 4s/1on, Conti 4s/2on/1g and Josh Uline 4s/2on. Brighton's total shots were 25s/11on/4g.

Canandaigua defeated McQuaid Jesuit in a non-league game this evening 17-7. Scoring did not start until four minutes into the game, but after that the Braves took at 5-0 lead after the first quarter. At halftime the Braves led 12-2. The Knights did win the fourth quarter 2-1.
In the cage senior Kyle Carson 3s/5ga (38%) and junior Scott Bement 5s/2ga (71%) split time for the Braves (14-2). While junior Dan Caufield 10s/9ga (53%) and sophomore Harry Goluses 6s/8ga (43%) split time for the Knights (10-7).
Scoring for Canandaigua were Connor Henderson (3g-3a), Jordan Manzer (4g-1a), A.J. Groot (3g-2a), Brian Scheetz (1g-2a), Justin Tomzak (2g), Jeremy Brown (2g), Sean Regan (1g-1a), Charlie Sauter (1g), Evan Roth (1a) and Ben Knapton (1a).

Newark defeated Pal-Mac 6-4 this afternoon. Newark took a 2-0 first quarter lead on goals from Stephen Johnson and Matt Clemons in transition with :03 in the first. The score was 4-2 Newark at halftime. The second half found both teams trading goals throughout to get to the 6-4 final. Goalie Josh Putman finished the game with 13s/4ga (76%) for the Reds (7-9). Senior Jonathon Reeve finished with 9s/6ga (60%) for Raiders (3-13).
Scoring for Newark were Matt Clemons (2g-1a), Stephen Johnson (2g), Colin Johnson (1g-1a), Adam Golding (1g), Chris Gonzales (1a), R.J. VanDemortal (1a) and Kevin Granger (1a).
Scoring for Pal-Mac were Steve VanDeWalle (1g-1a), Peter Maklos (1g), Dan Evans (1g), Pete Barry (1g) and Jeremy Norsen (1a).
Geneva held a 7-1 first quarter lead on their way to an 18-6 final against Aquinas in non-league action at Geneva. The Panthers held the advantage in ground balls (56 to 28) and shots (56 to 28).
Scoring for Geneva were Alex Love (6g-1a), Kyle Boncaro (2g-2a), Greg Bonney (1g-3a), John Warner (3g) and RJ Gringeri (3g). Jim Warner, Willie Rago and Eric Legott each scored 1g while Tyler Travis and Andy Torruella each added 1a. Matt Schutz made 2s and Kyle Brimm added 4s for the Panthers (13-4).
Scoring for Aquinas were Austin Gorman (3g), Nick Berkompas (2g-2a), Cameron Corsaro (1g), Anthony Bianchi (1a) and Mike Gray (1a). Alan Antinarelli made 19s and Kraig Hester added 5s more for Aquinas (709) No report from Aquinas
It was Brockport a 5-3 winner over Gate Chili in MC-3 action at Brockport.
Brockport scored first with a goal by Andrew Willis at 8:57. Gates tied the game with a goal by Tom Sudek (1g-2a) from Pat Sposato. John Hopkins scored from Kacie Jones with 5:47 left in the 2nd half and Brockport took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Sposato (1g-1a) tied the game at 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter. Tyler Sutphen broke the tie with a goal with 11:23 left in the 3rd quarter, assisted by Jake Burns. Andy Hilton tied the game at three each with a extra man goal assisted by Sudek with 6:16 left in the 4th quarter. Brockport took the lead for good with 2 goals by Sean Bittner (3:27 and 0:40 remaining). Connor Mykins had 18 saves for Brockport. No report form Gates Chili.
