Lots of Games on Thursday
April 26, 2007 - Twelve games were scheduled for Thursday and among the winners were Irondequoit, Penn Yan, Schroeder, Canandaigua, Livonia, Gates, Churchville and the Thunder. Also winning were Eastridge, Waterloo and Midlakes.
The game tonight began with a moment of silence for Marshall Vice-Principal William Thurston, whose son Trent plays for Schroeder. The Warriors went on to win 13-3 over Penfield.
The first goal of the game was scored by Grant Catalino (unassisted). Catalino scored five goals in the game, all of which were unassisted. Mike Tota scored the second goal, also unassisted. At 6:21 Schroeder scored a man-up goal by Nick Mooney with an assist from Austin Orsini. Penfield got on the board at 5:26 with Kevin Roe scoring (assisted by Toby Terwilliger). All three of the Patriot goals were assisted and all were scored (and assisted) by different players. The Warriors scored the last two goals of the quarter, both unassisted, as Orsini and Catalino found the back of the net. The first quarter ended 5-1 Schroeder.
The second quarter started with a face-off fast-break and Mooney scored (assisted by Barilla). Barilla ended the game 6/8 (75%) at face-off. Barilla scored on the next possession at 11:29 when he dodged three different players on his way to the goal. Penfield scored next, with Kyle Denhoff finding Dan Huntington on a cross-crease pass for the open net. Catalino scored the last two goals of the half at 3:23 and 0:49. The score was 9-2 going into the halftime break.
Schroeder scored the only two goals of the third with a man-up goal by Mooney (from Barilla) and a goal from Drew Palmer. Palmer, a senior defenseman, took the ball the entire way from a take, to a clear, to the eventual goal for the Warriors. The third ended 11-2 Schroeder.
Penfield started the scoring in the fourth with a goal at 9:57. Kevin Green scored (assisted by Kyle Vanthof). Schroeder ended the game with the last two goals. The first was Catalino's last unassisted goal and the last goal was an unassisted goal by Orsini.
In the cage, both teams put in substitutes with three minutes remaining. Kyle Semrau of Penfield recorded one save, while Brian Enck did not see the ball at all. Zach Marshall, Schroeder's senior goalie ended with 9s/3ga (75%) while sophomore Brady Del Pozzo finished with 7s/13ga (35%) for the Patriots.
Three players from Penfield took 19/24 shots for the Patriots; Kyle Vanthof (6s/2on), Kevin Roe (7s/5on/1g) and Kevin Green (6s/2on). The Patriots combined for 24s/12on/3g with 6 shooters.
Nick Mooney led the shooting efforts for the Warriors with 10s/7on/3g. Catalino was (8s/6on/5g) and Orsini was (4s/4on/2g). Schroeder combined for a total of 30s/21on/13g with 9 shooters.
Scoring for Schroeder were Catalino (5g), Mooney (3g), Orsini (2g-1a), Barilla (1g-2a), Tota (1g) and Palmer (1g). Schroeder improves to 7-1.
Scoring for Penfield were with one goal Roe, Green and Huntington and adding one assist each were Denhoff, Vanthof, and Terwilliger. Penfield falls to 4-3.
Midlakes defeated Mynderse tonight 9-8 during the second overtime period. Glen Stevenson scored the game winning goal for Midlakes.
Midlakes led 5-4 at the end of the first. Mynderse scored the long goal of the second to tie the game at 5-5 going into the half. Midlakes scored one more to take the lead 6-5 going into the third.
One player from each grade scored for Midlakes, the senior was Glen Stevenson (4g-3a), the junior was Nick Newland (2g-1a), the sophomore Conor Hogan (1g) and the freshman Tyler Brooks-Lambert (2g-3a). Jared Schoonerman, junior goalie, recorded an amazing 22s/8ga (73%).
Scoring for Mynderse were in the attack Anthony Clark (4g), Dustin Luckinbill (2g-1a) and A.J. Bachman (1g). Joining them were senior midfielders Tim Sweeting and Josh Kurdziolek who both had two assists and junior defenseman Brent Lombard (1g). Tony Pallidino ended with 15s/9ga (63%). It was a close and tough game and both teams played extremely hard but in the end it was Gates Chili 8-7 over visiting Spencerport. After a 2-2 tie at the end of the first quarter, Spencerport led at the half 4-3 and 6-5 after the third, Gates Chili scored three goals (to one) in the last quarter including the game winner by Tyler Webb.
Scoring for Spencerport were Pat Decker (1g-1a), Phil Schmid (2g), Justin Putt (1g-1a). Kyle Breach, Jeff Konko and Luciano Peterella each scored one goal and Rich LaRock and Dave Wychorski each added an assist. Mike Palvino made 19s/8ga (70%) for the Rangers (3-4).
Scoring for the Spartans were Andy Hilton led the scoring for G-C with (2g-3a) while Jeff Fichtner, Pat Sposato, Tyler Webb, Jake Johnson, Alik Miller and Tom Elkins each added one goal. Jason Baetzhold had 6s/7ga (46%).
In the first meeting this year between the two Greece teams, the Thunder (Ody/Ath) was a 12-5 winner over the Lightning (Arc/Oly)in what some call the Greece "Storm" game. Leading the scoring for the Thunder were Jared Bennett who scored 6g-2a and Nate Wallenhorst with 2g-3a. The teams meet again on May 17th.
Scoring for Jared Bennett (6g-2a), Jeremy Fitzgerald (1g), Nate Wallenhorst (2g-3a), Phil Rodriguez (2g), Nick Ryan (1g-1a and 7/9 face offs), James Andon (1a and 5/6 face offs), Greg Ryan (2a) and Joe Prestiagiacomo (1a). Dave Tarana started in goal and recorded 14s/4ga (78%) and Nick Bellucco finished the game with 1s/1ga (50%) for the Thunder (2-5). No report from the Lightning (Ard/Oly).
Livonia defeated McQuaid Jesuit tonight 8-7 in a GRALL league game.
McQuaid Jesuit began the scoring at 10:29 with an unassisted goal by Evan Gallina. Livonia scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 after the first quarter. Tyler Russell scored the first two goals for Livonia (the first assisted by Oren Taylor and the second by Brian Sciera). The third goal was scored by Taylor (assisted by Sciera).
McQuaid Jesuit scored the only three goals of the second quarter to retake the lead 4-3 at halftime. Each of the three goals were by different players (while the first two were assisted by Gallina and the last was unassisted). Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were JD Ayer, Jeff MacDonald and Nick Caton.
McQuaid Jesuit continued scoring in the third, leading off at 11:34 with Dan Odorcyzk scoring (assisted by Mitch Ritchie). Livonia scored the next two goal to tie the game again at 5-5. Scoring were Paul Nevvia (from Chris Bauch) and Gaelin Walsh (assisted by Russell). McQuaid Jesuit scored the last goal of the third quarter to retake the lead yet again. Ritchie scored (Ayer assisted) to bring about the third time. The end of the third was 6-5 McQuaid Jesuit.
Livonia received a stick penalty giving McQuaid Jesuit three minutes man-up and scored one goal at 9:05 when Ayer scored unassisted. The last three goals saw the Bulldogs score the catch-up, tying, and go ahead goals over seven minutes. 6:59 and 6:09 found the same combination of Russell from Jeff Wester for the tying goal. The go ahead goal occurred at 3:08 when Matt Girolmo scored unassisted. McQuaid Jesuit drew a one minutes slashing penalty at 0:50 causing them to go man-down and giving Livonia the ball, but with 0:40 remaining Livonia was assessed a bench foul causing the ball to go back to McQuaid Jesuit for one more opportunity but one they could not convert.
Scoring for Livonia were Russell (4g-1a), Taylor (1g-1a), Sciera (2a), Wester (2a), Nebbia (1g), Walsh (1g), Girolmo (1g) and Bausch (1a). Sophomore goalie Justin Becker played the entire game with a remarkable 16s/7ga (70%).
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Ayer (2g-1a), Gallina (1g-2a), Ritchie (1g-1a), MacDonald (1g), Caton (1g), and Odorczyk (1g). Dan Caufield had 9s/8ga (53%) for the Knights who drop to (7-3).
Penn Yan was a 6-4 winner over Geneva in Finger Lakes D-1 action at Pen Yan.
Scoring for the Mustangs were Matt Osgood, John Linnan and Ryan Cook with (1g-1a) each, Cole Castle with (2g) and Dan Wolfe with (1g). Adam Trombley and Dana Wilber each added 1a. Sophomore goalie Ethan Kamholtz started the game and made 7s in the first half while RJ Wickham recorded 7s in the second half. No report from Geneva.
Although the teams played to 1-1 tie in the first and the Red Raiders held a 4-2 lead at the half, a strong second half gave Waterloo a 10-8 victory over visiting Pal-Mac in their afternoon contest. The Indians scored five goals in the third quarter and added three more in the last while holding Pal-Mac to two goals in each of the last two quarters.
"We had several man-up opportunities in the third but failed to convert. That took the wind out of our sails," said Coach Enzo Falso after the game while complementing Waterloo's Josh Mateo (6g-1a).
Scoring for Waterloo were Josh Mateo (6g-1a), Nelson Boyd (1g-1a), Jeff Wadhams (1g-1a), Pete Vacca (1g), Rob Goodenow (1g).
Shawn Andrus had 10s/8ga (56%) and helps the Indians improve to 3-6.
Scoring for Pal-Mac were Jeremy Norsen (3g-3a), Steve Vanderwake (3g) while Dan Evans and Ryan Buckley added 1g each and Pete Maklos added an assist. Jonathan Reeves recorded 14s/10ga (58%) for the Red Raiders (1-7).
Canandaigua led at the half 8-0 and held a shutout until the last quarter on their way to 13-2 league win over host Victor. The penalty filled game (17 penalties for 15 minutes) resulted in only two man up goals for the Braves who improve to 7-1.
Scoring for CA were Jeremy Brown (4g), AJ Groot (2g-2a), Justin Tomzak (2g), Connor Henderson (2g) while Andrew Knoblauch, Tyler Wakefield and Sean Regan each added one goal. Brian Scheetz recorded 2a and Marshall Johnson, Austin Rogers, John Klein, Nick Munn and Jordan Manzer each added one assist. Scott Bement played the first 30 minutes and had 10s/0ga (100%) and Kyle Carson played the rest of the game and made 3s/2ga (60%).
Scoring for Victor were Jason Houtenbrink(1g-1a) and Frank Valenti (1g). Victor Goalies Mitchell Liegerot played for three quarters and made 9s/11ga (45%) and Cody Bennett finished with 1s/2ga (33%) for the Blue Devils (5-4).
Under rainy skies and after a 90 minute lightning delay, Churchville-Chili started slowly against rival Brockport. Leading 2-0 after the first quarter, Churchville pulled away with a 16-4 victory.
The Saints defense limited Brockport to only 10 on cage, shut out the man-up (0 for 3) including a 3-minute non releasable stick penalty and used forced 7 of 23 failed clears. Saints faceoff man, Doug Hemink was 11 for 18 (61%) and Brian Briggs scooped 15 of the team's 41 ground balls while leaving 27 for Brockport (3-4).
Leading the scoring for C-C were Ben Rossignolo (6g-3a) followed by Ryan Grogan (3g-3a), Gino Marcello (3g-1a), Jamie Englert (1g-1a). Cory Mee, Keith Preston and Doug Hemink each added a goal and Brian Traugott finished the scoring with an assist. Goalie, Sean Kettles made 6s/4ga (60%) before giving way to Adam DiFulvio in the 4th. The Saints improve to 6-1.
Scoring for Brockport were Adam Nauerth (3g) and Braden Flynn (1g). Sean Bittner, Kacie Jones and Matt Lester each had an assist. Connor Mykins had 11 saves and 9 goals against when he was relieved with 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. John Duthoy had 5 saves and allowed 7 goals in his backup duty.
Irondequoit continued their unbeaten streak, now at 7-0 and defeated Rush-Henrietta in a Monroe-County division-1 match with a score of 13-7.
Scoring for Irondequoit were Drew Coholan (6g), Andrew Hard (1g-4a), Greg Wright (3g-1a), Nick Kane (1g-1a), Tim Kleehammer (1g), Todd Laemlein (1g) and Kevin Coholan (1a). Senior goalie Zach Nash both recorded 1a as well as 8s/7ga (53%).
Scoring for R-H were Colin Cornaire (3g), Brian Hantzis (2g-1a), Bobby Pattridge (1g), Nate Delone (1g) and Justin Rose (1a). Matt McShea recorded 19s/13ga (59%) for the Royal Comets (2-4).
It was Eastridge of Honeoye Falls-Lima, 11-8. The Lancers scored 4 in the 4th quarter to give them the victory. The score was tied 5-5 at half.
Scoring for the Lancers were Brandon Moynihan (3g-1a), Matt Driffill (2g-3a), Alex Austin (1g-2a), Kevin Mahler (2g), Todd Horne (3g-1a), and Alan Ingrasio (2a). Adam Sisson won 17/21 face-offs. Eugene Ferrera had 9s/8ga (53%). No report from HFL
The Brighton/Hilton game was not played due to field conditions and is expected to be rescheduled.
