Tuesday Games - Close Ones

April 24, 2007 - Although the high profile Schroeder-Irondequoit game was cancelled (date to be determined), there were eleven other games were played with several very close ones.
       
    Fairport came out strong in the first quarter and held back the Royal Comets for the remaining three quarters for a 11-10 finals score.
  
Fairport's Martin Manilla started the scoring at 10:20 (assisted by Brendan Saylor). Saylor drove from behind and hit Manilla on the crease. The second goal came from a drive from behind the cage by Mike Danylyshyn at 9:37. Rush-Henrietta scored just 0:19 seconds later with a drive by Matt Moran from behind the cage. The Red Raiders scored the next four goals. Fairport's third goal, at 8:54, utilized the same crease feed that was used for the first goal, and with the same players. The Royal Comets scored again with 2:01 remaining as Colin Cornaire scored, assisted by Aaron Bethmann. Fairport scored with 0:01 remaining in the first quarter and in fact there was a goal in each of the first three quarters with under 0:10 remaining. The first quarter ended with Fairport in the lead, 7-2.
  
After their initial domination, the second quarter was a much closer match-up as the teams traded goals (3-3). Rush-Henrietta scored the first two goals at 9:21 and 7:43. The first was an outside shot by Ryan Leonard, assisted by Matt Moran, and the second was an unassisted goal by Nate Delone. Delone led all scorers with 4 goals. Fairport found yet another inside crease feed, this time Aaron Jones (with an assist from Manilla). Delone scored again for the Royal Comets (from Moran) as did Jones (unassisted). Fairport ended the scoring for the quarter with John McDonnell grabbing a lose ball in front of the cage and finishing the shot, with only 0:09. The half ended with Fairport up 10-5.
  
The second half was one long Rush-Henrietta come back which ended just shy of the victory. Rush scored the first goal at 8:26 remaining with another goal from Delone (unassisted). Fairport scored their final goal of the game with 2:30 remaining as Shawn Runyon hustled hard for a ground ball at half-field and brought it all the way down for the point. Rush-Henrietta scored two more goals in the third, and then two more in the fourth. With 2:01 remaining, Cornaire scored on a drive from behind and with 0:07 remaining the Royal Comets scored on a fast break goal with Bethmann assisting Justin Rose. The third ended with Rush-Henrietta down 11-8.
  
The fourth found scoring early. At 10:02 Rose scored on a drive from behind the net and at 9:06 Delone added another with a close to the crease cut. The next 9 minutes demonstrated Fairport's patience. With 4:01 remaining Rush-Henrietta sustained a slash call and went man-down. Fairport iced the entire penalty. Rush-Henrietta had one more opportunity to score and after a time-out could not cash in on it. During the final two minutes Fairport controlled the ball in their offensive end and did not allow the Royal Comet's to tie the game.
  
Senior goaltender for Rush-Henrietta Matt McShea ended with 19s/11ga (63%) and sophomore goalie Kristoffer Sterzin ended with 9s/10ga (47%), for Fairport (3-4).
  
Scoring for Rush-Henrietta were Delone (4g), Moran (1g-2a), Cornaire (2g), Rose (2g), Bethmann (2a) and Leonard (1g). R-H drops to 2-3.
  
Scoring for Fairport were Danylyshyn (3g), Manilla (2g-1a), Saylor (3a), Jones (2g), Runyon (2g), Martin (1g-1a), McDonnell (1g) and Thomas Rynn (1a).
  
  It was Churchville-Chili over Greece Thunder 16-2 as the Saints led 12-1 at the end of the first quarter, and played the bench for the rest of the game.

Scoring for Churchville-Chili were Gino Marcello (5), Doug Hemink (2g-2a), Ryan Grogan (2g-2a), Ben Rossignolo (2g-1a), Jamie Englert (2a), Cory Mee (1g), Jon Hemink (1g), Damien Pagaano (1g), Cody Rumsey (1g), Kevin Conway (1g) and Danny Lupiani (1a). Sean Kettles and Adam Difulvio split time in the net. Kettles was 2s/1ga (66%) and Difulvio was 3s/1ga (75%). C-C improves to 5-1.

Scoring for Greece Athena/Odyssey were Jeremy Fitzgerald (1g), Phil bond (1g), Nate Wallenhorst (1a). Dave Tarana and Andrew Hosenfeld split time in the cage. Tarana recorded 7s/12ga (37%) while Hosenfeld recorded 2s/4ga (33%). The Thunder is 1-5.
  
 Spencerport defeated Batavia tonight 15-2. Junior goalie Mike Palvino for Spencerport recorded 8s in the first half, while Brad O'Keefe recorded 3s/2ga (60%). Batavia junior goalie, Matt Landfried, ended the game with 10s/16ga (38%).

Scoring for Spencerport were Phil Schmid (5g), Luciano Petrella (3a), while Kyle Breach, Patrick Decker and Rich LaRock all scored two goals, while Jeff Konko, Ken Bell, and Sean DeMers all scored one goal, rounding out the scoring was Mike Baldino (1g-1a). Spencerport improves to 3-3.

Scoring for Batavia were sophomore Joe Muoio (2g) and freshman Chip Chapman (1a).
  
CNS, of Section III, defeated visiting Geneva 12-7. The score at the half was 6-3 for CNS.
  
Scoring for Geneva were John Warner (1g-1a), Kyle Boncaro (2g), Jim Warner (1g), Andy Torruella (1g), Greg Bonney (1g), RJ Gringeri (1g), and Tyler Travis (1a). Senior goalie Matt Schutz ended with 9s/12ga (43%) for the Panthers (7-2).
  
Scoring for CNS were Jim Haney (4g-2a), John Blume (2g), Nick Lococo (2g-1a), Josh Spadard (1g), R.Neider (1g), Jeff Gilbert (1g-1a) and P.Ionzito (1g).
  
It was Newark 9-7 over Midlakes in an afternoon game at Newark.
  
The scoring began quickly with Newark's Chris Gonzalez scoring an unassisted goal just 0:32 seconds into the game. Midlakes responded with 3 goals and took an early 3-1 lead, However, Newark finished the quarter with two goals of their own to knot the score at three at the quarter.
  
The second quarter found Newark pulling ahead with a 3-1 quarter to go into half-time up 6-4.
  
Midlakes came back with a great third quarter to take a 7-6 advantage. Newark then went on to tie the game in the third with a goal from close defenseman Robert Camblin. Newark took the lead and extended it by another goal to end up with the final score of 9-7.
  
Scoring for Newark were Colin Johnson (2g-2a), Matt Clemons (2g-1a), John Barrett (1g-2a), Stephen Johnson (2g), Robert Camblin (1g-1a) and Chris Gonzales (1g). Senior Josh Putman ended with 13s/7ga (65%). No report from Midlakes.
  
 In GRALL league action, Livonia beat Haverling 11-1. Livonia went out ahead to a take a quick 4-0 lead. Haverling's David Harris scored their only goal in the second quarter.

Sophomore goalie Chris Wolfer recorded 7s/11ga (37%) for Haverling (0-6) while sophomore Justin Becker ended with 8s/1ga (89%)for the Bulldogs (5-4).

Scoring for Livonia were Tyler Russell (4g-2a), Brian Sciera (3g-3a), Chris Bausch (2g), Oren Taylor (2a), Terry Matthews (1g), Jeff Wester (1g), Gaelin Walsh (1a), Matt Girolmo (1a), and Aaron Miller (1a).
  
 It was Mynderse over Pal-Mac 10-9 in an afternoon game at Macedon Elementary. Pal-Mac led 3-1 after the first quarter and 5-4 at the half. The third saw a change as Mynderse took a 8-6 lead, and held strong for the remainder of the game.
  
Scoring for Mynderse were Dustin Luckinbill (6g), Kevin McCully (4a), Josh Kurdziolek (2g-1a), Anthony Clark (1g), Mike Warrick (1g) and A.J. Bachmann (1a). Tony Pallidino ended with 10s/9ga (53%). No report received from Mynderse.
  
Scoring for Pal-Mac were Steve VanDeWalle (4g-1a), Jeremy Norsen (2g-1a), Mike Christ (3a), Peter Maklos (1g-1a), Jordan Wirthman (1g-1a), and Ryan Buckley (1a). Junior Jonathon Reeve recorded 12s/10ga (55%).
  
 McQuaid Jesuit defeated Aquinas 14-12 in a GRALL league game tonight at Aquinas. After posting a 4-3 lead in the first quarter, the Knights took a 9-5 lead into the halftime break. At the end of the third McQuaid Jesuit was ahead 12-8. In the fourth quarter the Little Irish scored four goals in a row to get within one when Austin Gorman scored on a feed from Nick Berkompas at 3:49. Dan Sturnick scored for McQuaid Jesuit at 2:13 and the Knights then ran out the clock for the win.
  
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Mitch Ritchie (4g-2a), Evan Gallina (4g), JD Ayer (2g), Jeff MacDonald (2g) and Dan Sturnick (2g). Dan Caufield recorded 9s/12ga (43%) for McQuaid Jesuit (7-2).
  
Scoring for Aquinas were freshman Anthony Bianchi (3g-3a) and Austin Gorman (5g), Senior Nick Berkompas (1g-5a), juniors Marc Brondon (2g) and Michael Gray (1g), and sophomore Cameron Corsaro (1a). Senior goalie Alan Antinarelli finished with 7s/14ga (33%) for Aquinas (3-5).
  
 Hilton defeated HFL 10-6 in an 8:00 game at Hilton tonight. Senior goalie Aaron Donahey recorded 14s/6a (70%).
  
Scoring for Hilton were Jay Clifford (3g-1a), James Moss (3g), Colin Walker (1g-1a), Alex Wood (2a), and Mike Crumlish, Jeff DeLong, and Steve Bernsten with one goal each. No report received from HFL.
  
   Gates-Chili defeated Brockport 9-8 tonight. Gates took a 1-0 lead after the first quarter and held the lead going into halftime, 3-2. After three the score was tied at five.
  
Scoring for Gates-Chili were Tom Sudek (3g-1a), Tom Elins (3g), Pat Sposato (3g), Rusty Donlon (1a) and Alec Bazer (1a). Sophomore Jason Baetzhold ended with 9s/8ga (53%). The Spartans improve their record to 4-2.
  
Scoring for Brockport were Sean Bittner (3g-3a), Will Glynn (1a), Trevor Hayward (3g), Andy Willis (1g) and Adam Nauerth (1g). Connor Mykins recorded 13s/9ga.
 
 Thomas was a 17-4 winner over Eastridge in MC-2 divisional play.
  
Scoring for the Lancers were Brandon Moynihan (1g) , Alex Austin (1g), Matt Driffill (2a), and Kevin Mahler (2g). Eugene Fererra made 9s/17ga. Score only from Thomas..
