Penn Yan falls in OT

April 20, 2007 - Lafayette scored two goals in the last few minutes of the game and then scored the game winner in the second over time period to give the Section 3 team a 10-9 victory over host Penn Yan. In other games on Friday, Irondequoit remained undefeated with a 7-2 win over C-C, Hilton was a 19-5 winner over Ath/Ody and Aquinas was a 15-8 winner over Eastridge.

Scoring for Penn Yan were Matt Osgood (3g-2a), Ryan Cook (1g-1a), Adam Trombley (1g-2a), Dan Wolfe (1g), Josh Perrault (1g-1a), Cole Castle (1g) and Mike Manley (1g).
  
   After scoring the first eight goals in the game, Hilton took a 12-2 halftime lead and cruised to an 18-5 win over Greece Athena/Odyssey in an afternoon game at McAvoy Park in Irondequoit.
  
The Cadets went right to work, scoring their first goal at 10:56 when senior attackman Alex Wood scored on a pass from James Moss. Kyle Hayward scored next on a feed in front of the cage by Jay Clifford. Wood scored the next two (unassisted). After a four minute break without scoring, senior middie Jeff DeLong and thirty seconds later junior attackman Jon Graus scored after receiving the ball from Colin Walker. One minute later Moss put one in on a drive from a full field clear and a pass from Wood. Mike Crumlish received the ball from Troy Johnson and ran straight to the goal for a one-on-one with Thunder goalie Dave Tarana, scoring at 2:03. The quarter ended with Hilton up 8-0.
  
The second quarter started with a goal by Greece, when sophomore attackman Nate Wallenhorst scored on a fast break from the face off and a feed from senior middie Nick Ryan. The Cadets scored two more in the last thirty second of the half, which ended with Hilton up 10-1.  
  
Senior attackman Jeremy Fitzgerald flipped a ground ball into the net "hockey style" to score the second goal for Greece at 5:39 in the third. Hilton's Matt Borcyk scored on a shot that bounced over the goalie's head after driving straight to the goal from the midfield. Chuck Nesbitt scored for the Cadets at 1:36 and Hilton ended the third quarter with a score of 12-2.
  
Once again, Greece started the scoring at the top of the third quarter as Fitzgerald dodged one defended and put one past Hilton goalie Tim O`Toole. After the next faceoff, junior defenseman Matt Davidson cleared the ball and earned an assist with his feed to Walker at 9:26. Ten seconds after the face off, Jeff DeLong picked up the ground ball and ran in for an unassisted goal . The Thunder ended the quarter with a goal by Phil Rodriguez (assisted by Nick Ryan). The Cadets led 14-4.
  
Crumlish scored two more for Hilton, the first assisted by Walker on a crease feed and the second in man up assisted by sophomore middie Steve Bernsten. Walker scored at 7:34 on a clear out play and Greece returned with a goal by Wollenhorst who received the feed from sophomore midfielder Greg Ryan at 0:56. The last goal of the game was scored on a drive from a clear by senior middie Nick Ryan. Fourteen different Cadets made the scorebook.
  
Scoring for Hilton were Wood (3g-1a), Moss (1g-2a), Haywood (1g-1a), Clifford (1a), DeLong (3g and 6 of 8 face offs), Graus (2g), Walker (2g-2a), Crumlish (3g), Johnson (1a), Towner (1g), Borcyk (1g), Nesbitt (1g), Davidson (1a), and Bernsten (1a). Aaron Donahey started the game in goal (0s/1ga). Tim O'Toole played in the goal in the second and third quarters (4s/3ga) and Brad Speer ended the game with 4s/1ga) for the Cadets (4-3).
  
Scoring for Greece Athena/Odyssey were Wallenhorst (2g), Nick Ryan (2a), Fitzgerald (2g), Rodriguez (1g) and Greg Ryan (1a). Dave Tarana (4s/12ga) and Nick Bellucco (4s/6ga) split the time in the goal for Greece (1-4).
  
 Aquinas beat visiting Eastridge 15-8. Aquinas outscored the Lancers in the first three quarters 5-1, 4-0, 3-1. Eastridge fought back outscoring the Little Irish 6-3 in the final quarter.
  
Scoring for Aquinas were Austin Gorman (5g-2a), Nick Berkompas (3g-2a), Marc Brondon (2g-2a), Casey Vogl (2g-2a), Jasen Torres (2g-1a) and Anthony Bianchi (1g). Senior goalie Alan Antinarelli recorded 16s/8ga (66%). No report from Eastridge.
  
    Defense was the name of the game as Irondequoit prevailed in the battle of two undefeated teams and defeated Churchville-Chili, 7-2.
  
Irondequoit began the scoring at 7:48 remaining in the first quarter with an unassisted drive from Mike Wallenhorst. Churchville-Chili scored their first with only 0:36 left in the first. The Saints` riding attackman broke the Eagles clear and scored on a cross-crease pass by Jamie Englert feeding Ben Rossignolo. The first quarter ended with the score tied at 1-1.
  
The second quarter saw two goals for Irondequoit, both by Kevin Coholan. The first was on an unassisted drive at 7:41. The third Eagles goal came with 3:51 remaining in the half. Nick Kane drove in from the outside and missed the cage wide right, Greg Wright (who was backing up the goal) caught the ball and immediately looked to the crease where Coholan was waiting for his second goal of the night. Coholan finished the night with four of the Eagles seven goals. The score at halftime was 3-1 in favor of Irondequoit.
  
Irondequoit scored their fourth goal at 9:36 with an outside shot by Coholan. Churchville-Chili scored the only other goal of the quarter at 3:51. This goal, similar to the first Saints goal, came as the result of a fast-break. Quick inside passing led the Saints to score with Rossignolo feeding Gino Marcello. The third quarter ended with the Eagles up 4-2.
  
The fourth quarter remained close until the last half of the fourth quarter. At 8:15, Irondequoit's Tyler Kleehammer received the ball on a fast-break by the Eagles. Sean Kettles, the goalie for the Saints, came across the crease for a clutch save to keep Churchville-Chili in the game. The last three shots that the Eagles took all produced goals as Irondequoit scored their fifth at 5:54, sixth at 4:47, and seventh at 2:17. Coholan (unassisted) scored with a spin move. A crease feed from Drew Coholan to Wallenhorst scored the second and was followed by a one-on-one drive by Todd Laemlein for the final Eagles goal.
  
Defensive play was the cornerstone for both teams this evening. Both Zach Nash of Irondequoit and Sean Kettles of Churchville-Chili had outstanding games. Nash finished the game with 6s/2ga (75%), Kettles finished with 13s/6ga (68%). With six minutes remaining in the game Kettles was at 81%. For the entire game the Saints played strong tight defense, the slides came early and often as many players turned back the one-on-one Irondequoit drives. The Saints recorded five takes including two for Englert.
  
Irondequoit's defense was also on top of its game. The Eagles recorded three specific one-on-one takes as well as many ground balls from within a pack of players. Sean Davern, a junior defenseman, had a take late in the game that helped Irondequoit cement its victory. Both teams had many players stand out and overall the game was a testament to strong defensive play. Many fans and coaches alike commented on Churchville-Chili's play and their success after just a few seasons with a program.
  
Irondequoit out shot the Saints 33-15. Irondequoit also won a majority of the face-off's with both Kane and Wallenhorst recording 4/6 (66%).
  
Scoring for Irondequoit were Kevin Coholan (4g), Wallenhorst (2g), Laemlein (1g), Wright (1a), and Drew Coholan (1a). Irondequoit is now 6-0 and the only undefeated team in Monroe County division-1.
  
Scoring for Churchville-Chili were Rossignolo (1g-1a), Marcello (1g), and Englert (1a). Churchville-Chili drops to 3-1, the Saints play again tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Spencerport.
