Preseason 2006 - Thomas

-

THOMAS
s5 - thomas1After being near the top of the Monroe County - 2 league in 2004, The Titans split games with R-H and ended up tied for last (1-11) in the Monroe County -1 league in 2005. They finished 6-12 over all including an exciting win over McQuaid Jesuit in the Class A Tournament. In 2006, Thomas moves back to MC-2 where they will certainly win more league games.

Thomas was seeded 10th in the Class A Tournament last year and ended up 8th after their first round win over McQuaid Jesuit (seeded 7th). They lost to Canandaigua (15-7) in the quarter final round.

The Titans only lost four players to graduation, including Alan Liwush and Jeff Reiman in midfield and Matt Kemp and Mark Shubber (Geneseo) in defense.

thomas2Notable returners this year include juniors Dom Scalzo, Brendan Rothfuss and Max Gurowski in attack. The three of them combined for 66 goals and 39 assists last year. Seniors Kurt DetWiller and Kevin Kemp and junior Dan Hinderland return in midfield and senior Steve Hondorf or junior Alex Mosher will be back in the goal. Remmington Fox and Pete Hart will run defensive shifts in the midfield and newcomer Pat Maloney looks like the Titan face off man. All three starters in defense return including junior Ryan McGrath and seniors AJ Laffin and Jordan Tracey and newcomer Taylor Smith is expected to run as the fourth long stick.

It’s difficult to say how Thomas will look in Class A this year, because there can be no doubt that their top players will look very good when playing games against the bulk of Monroe County - 2 teams. The Titans are also scheduled to play against Schroeder, Fairport, Canandaigua and Hamburg. These games along with their league games with HFL will help to define how good they are when the sectional tournament comes along.
