Preseason 2006 - McQuaid Jesuit

McQuaid Jesuit
s5 - McQuaid Jesuit tied for the GRALL title in 2005 with a 5-1 record, having split games with Aquinas. The Knights finished the season at 8-10 under first year Head Coach Scott Bryson.

McQuaid Jesuit was seeded 7th in the Class A Tournament, but an out bracket loss to Thomas (8-7) left them in 10th.

GRALL sweet 16 honors went to senior Tyler Rubino and junior Mark Hanna who were named as attackmen, senior Scott Rubino was named as a midfielder and junior Alex Caton was named in defense. Coach Bryson was named “Coach of the Year”.

The Knights lost eight players to graduation including midfielder Scott and attackman Tyler Rubino (Harfford), midfielders Kevin Dacey (Saint Michael's) and Randy Mays (Pittsburgh) and attackman Brendon Clar (Richmond).

Coach Bryson has quite a bit back for the 2006 season including senior Marty Farchione who will "anchor" the attack while "newcomers" Mitch Ritchie and Jeff MacDonald, both sophomores, will be looking to contribute. Senior Mark "Sparky" Hanna returns to pick up where he left off last season.

In the midfield senior Sean Conroy will add an "offensive punch" while joining with veterans senior Nick Cardillo and junior Evan Gallina. Newcomers, junior Dan Odorczyk and sophomores Nick Caton, Clint Masterson and Jay Haseley will look for midfield runs.

Senior Alex Caton (last year's team MVP) returns in defense with seniors Dan Blackburn, Joe Micca and David Feor (LS). Sophomores Mitch Bailey and Mike Micca fill out the defense in front of senior goalie Pat Maguire.

The Knights should do well this season, although they have some challenging out of league games with Canisius and St. Francis from Section 6 (Buffalo) and with teams at the Cortland Tournament early in the season. The offense will regroup without the Rubino brothers but Farchione and Hanna will add scoring power and ball control in the attack. Alex Caton is an excellent defenseman and will handle some key match ups for the Knights. Galina and Cardillo have experience for the midfield and the newcomers may add some much needed depth. Pat Maguire is capable of making big saves.
