Class B Champions: BRIGHTON

 St. John Fisher College. Brighton held the number four position entering the Class B Tournament and after beating the top seed, HFL 15-11 on Thursday, the Barons used an overtime goal by MVP and junior attackman, Mike Ryerson to win their first Section Five Class B Championship, 6-5.
 
Brighton (12-7) scored the first goal, just 53 seconds into the game as junior attackman, James Ryan scored an unassisted goal. At the 10:19 mark, the Barons scored again when senior attackman, Zack Davis scored the first of his two goals in a row with an assist by Ryerson. Victor saw goals from senior attackman, Chris Potter (unassisted at 9:54) and junior midfielder, Cory Benulis with an assist from senior middie, Ben Cerza at 4:36. The quarter ended with Brighton up 3-2.
 
Victor came back strong in the second, shutting out the Barons while scoring two goals, both by Potter with assists by Kyle Rogemoser and Benulis. The half ended with Victor up 4-3.
 
Victor scored the lone goal in the third as junior attackman, Kyle Rogemoser scored on an assisted by Ben Cerza at 3:58.
 
Brighton came back in the last quarter as they scored two goals while shutting out Victor. Brighton's first goal came from James Ryan (unassisted) at 7:56.
 
Victor was penalized late in the game and Ryerson scored in man up with a feed by Ryan at 1:55 to tie the game at five.
 
Both teams had chances in the overtime period, but it was Ryerson's goal on an assist by sophomore middie, Robbie Asselin at 2:00 that gave Brighton the Championship win, 6-5. Asselin picked up a loose ball at midfield during a Victor clear and passed the ball to Ryerson who went one-on-one with Victor goalie, Andy Bowerman just outside the crease.
 
Making the All-Tournament Team from Brighton were, James Ryan, Zack Davis, Robbie Asselin, Tom Fannon and MVP, Mike Ryerson. Selected from Victor were Chris Potter, Ben Cerza, Mike Pupparo and Andy Bowerman. JP Gorman from Aquinas and Eric Dehm from HFL also received honors.
 
Brighton now waits for the Western Regional contest, which will see the Barons take on the Class B winner from Section Six (Buffalo). That game will be played at Canisius College on Tuesday June 1st at 3:30 pm.
 
An outbracket game with Massena from Section X will not be played as the Section X Champions, who beat Heuvelton 15-3 last week, elected not to play in the Sate Tournament.
