Gananda Over Geneva in Double OT

- Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: A couple of games were postponed, but fourteen were able to play today and three were one-goal games. Penn Yan scored their winning goal in the last quater as they defeated Westhill (Section 3) 5-4. Senior midfielder Austin Blumbergs led the Mustangs with four goals and sophomore goalie Jeff Kinyon made twelve saves (75%). Thomas used a goal in the last five minutes of the game to defeat Fairport 11-10 and Patrick Shanley scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime period to give Gananda the 9-8 win at Geneva.

Penfield at Schroeder Patrick Shanley scored the game winning overtime in the second overtime period to earn Gananda the 9-8 win over Geneva. The Blue Panthers won their second one goal game in a row to remain undefeated at 6-0. The Panthers fought back to force a tie with the last three goals of the game, but they could not retake the lead in the final four minutes. Story Continues...

HFL scored the game opener with an unassisted drive by Andrew Mapstone and defeated Greece Storm 11-7. Although the Cougars never trailed, the Storm kept the game close and forced two ties. Mapstone led in scoring with 3g-2a and Garrett Ruff added another 4g-1a. Defenseman David O`Connell finished with four recorded takes. For Greece, Trevor Gilliard and Paul Forte each recorded 2g-1a to lead. Faceoff midfielder Joe Wegman finished 12/20 and led his team in groundballs with six.

Churchville-Chili took over the lead in the second half and never let up. The Braves led for portions of the first quarter. Jack Johnson and Mitch Pfeiffer scored the first two goals of the game to give Canandaigua the 2-0 lead. Churchville-Chili responded with two of their own to force the first of only three ties. Trent Smith (assisted by Corey Yunker) and Jacob Buck scored the opening Saint volley. Yunker led in scoring with 3g-6a and Buck led in goals with 5g-1a. Canandaigua came back with another pair of goals from Pfeiffer and Tyler Goode.

Gananda at Geneva After trailing 2-4, Churchville-Chili scored six of the next seven to go up 8-5. After which, they never lost the lead. The Braves kept up their pressure and pulled within a single goal twice; however, late in the game they could not come closer than 2 (12-10). Mike Miara finished at 50% in the cage. Of note for Canandaigua was face-off midfielder Matt Vierhile, who kept gaining possession for the Braves. He kept the ball in their offense and refused to allow Churchville-Chili to pull away.

Webster Thomas held off the late advances of Fairport to defeat the Red Raiders 11-10.  Thomas scored the first six goals unanswered and led 8-2 late into the second quarter.  Fairport scored the final three goals of the half to bring the score to 8-5 going into halftime.  Spencer Bell, Colin Peers and Klay Stuver scored three quick goals.  Stuver finished as the leading scorer for his team with 4g-1a.  The Red Raiders continued into the second half and closed the gap to 10-8 after three quarters.

The Red Raiders scored four unanswered goals to go from 10-6 to 10-10 with 6:47 remaining in regulation.  Thomas scored the game winning goal with 4:46 remaining.  Spencer Nuccitelli scored his fourth goal of the game to give the Titans their final lead.  Nuccitelli led for Thomas.  Face off midfielder Joe Luconte finished 12/20.

Also winning today were Haverling, Victor(5-0), Penfield, Pittsford, Marcus Whitman, Pal-Mac and Wayne.
