Pittsford Take Orchard Park to Running Time

- Section Five representative Pittsford defeated Section Six representative Orchard Park 20-6 in the Western Regional Championship.  Later in the day, the Pittsford girls also won the Western Regional Championship 15-1 over Frontier (HERE).

The Panthers scored the first seven goals of the match and held the Quakers scoreless for the first 18:49. Pittsford finished with 13 different players making their offensive book.  Leading the charge was Colby Barker with 4g-1a. 

Pittsford scored five goals in the first quarter.  Barker scored three of his four goals in the opening 12 minutes.  He scored with an outside shot from the right flat for the first two goals.  The third Panther goal was scored with an outside shot by Jeremy Jacob before Barker scored again with a dodge down the middle.  The final goal of the first quarter was scored off a fast-break goal.  Faceoff midfielder Patrick Sullivan, directed the ball down to the offensive end where John Mozrall picked up the loose ball and scored unassisted on the crease.

Pittsford v OPIn the second quarter, Pittsford added two more goals before Orchard Park got on the board.  Jacob and Barker each added another in the first six minutes.  With 5:11 remaining, Orchard Park scored their first goal with an outside shot by Coleman Jacobs (assisted by Matt Honer).  Brennan Mooney scored with a fast-break goal that began with defenseman Connor Haims stripping the ball in their defensive area.  The Quakers next goal was on an unsettled offense with Pat Sullivan assisting John Owens.    The Panthers added another two before halftime.  John Mozrall and Mooney scored for the Panthers.  The score was 10-2 Pittsford at the half.

In the third quarter, Pittsford added another five goals and took the game into running time. Three of the five goals were scored by Sonny Imburgia.  The final goal of the quarter was scored in extra-man offense by Orchard Park with Logan Collins scoring off a feed from Cayden Collins.  The fourth quarter was much of the same. The first four goals were alternating coming in and out of running time.  Collins, and Frank Weiss scored for Orchard Park and John Avery and Caleb Drake scored for the Panthers.  Drake’s goal was assisted by Reed Perestram and was scored off a face-off fast-break.  Pittsford v OPThe face-off was the first Varsity win for freshman Daniel Maggio who was pulled up for the tournament.  The scoring continued with Pittsford scoring the last two. (Avery, Sammy Thomolaris).

In the cage for Pittsford, Gavin Catalano played three quarters and recorded 7 saves.  Lucas Erbland took over in the third quarter and recorded 3 saves before coming out with 2 minutes remaining.  Brecken Catalano finished out the game but did not record a save.  For Orchard Park, Matt Holowka and John Conte each recorded a single save.  Pittsford will continue on to play Baldwinsville (Section III) on Wednesday at 4:00 at St. John Fisher College.
