Braden Finger Scores Game winner for Penn Yan in 3rd OT

- DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Braden Finger scored the winning goal with an assist from Mike Gigliotti in the third overtime period to give the Mustangs an exciting opening day win against Westhill (Section III).

PY at WesthillPENN YAN-10 at WESTHILL-9 - Westhill scored four goals in the first quarter and led 6-4 at the half, but the Mustangs came out of the halftime break with a renewed sense of purpose, tying the game at 7-7 after three quarters. Falling behind in the fourth quarter, John Holly scored the tying goal with two minutes left in the game. Penn Yan fought off a two-minute, non-releasable penalty in the second overtime, and backup Sophomore goalie Aiden Griffiths (10s/9ga = 53%), who only made a couple of saves in the first half, making many critical saves in the three overtime periods. After receiving a pass from Freshman attackman Mike Gigliotti, Sophomore midfielder Braden Finger scored the game winner to end the game. Leading the scoring were CA at GenevaBraden Fingar (4g-3a), Teagan Fingar (1g-2a), and Mike Gigliotti (2g-1a). Freshman midfielder Levi Fisher scored his first Varsity goal in this game. Leading the scoring for Westhill were Charlie DeMore (3g-1a), Jack Hayes (2g), Andrew Mondo (2g), and Owen Etoll (1g-1a). Goalie Keller O`Hern made 15s/10ga (60%). CANANDAIGUA-14 at GENEVA-3 - Senior offensiveman Sean Olvany reached his 50th career goal with his 5g-4a (51g) and Junior defenseman Will Rheude scored his first Varsity goal for Canandaigua as they took a 6-2 halftime lead. The Gray Wolves were very aggressive throughout the game placing multiple players on ground balls and riding hard to limit the number of successful Panther clears. A high note for Geneva was the faceoff work of Senior Jeremy Askin. Leading the scoring for Canandaigua in their season opener were Olvany (5g-4a), Junior attackman Drew Williamee (3g-2a), and Junior attackman Mike Belles (3g). Senior goaltender Jaxson Tucker recorded 3s/2ga = 60% in his half in the goal. Scoring for Geneva were Junior midfielder Max Heieck (2g), and Sophomore attackman Ryland Dunham (1g-1a). McQ at AQMCQUAID JESUIT-22 at AQUINAS-14 - The game started out close with four tied before the Knights took off, scoring nine goals before the half and then never fell behind.  Junior midfielder AJ Quagrello reached his 50th career goal with his 6g-1a (52g) while Junior midfielder Will Engle scored his first Varsity goal for McQuaid.  Junior faceoff specialist JP Gianforti recorded 13+/2- = 87%, and Sophomore Domenic Giangreco had 17+/2- = 89% for the Knights who will play Loveland at the end of next week. Sophomore attackman Tano Auriuso reached his 100th goal with his 3 goals (100g) for Aquinas while also scoring were Senior midfielder Carter Wegman (3g-0a), Sophomore attackman Jake Guggino (3g), and Junior attackman Gio Valerie (1g-1a).
