Friday: Top Two Teams Advance

- DAY IN REVIEW: The top two teams advanced in the Class A and Class C semifinals today. `Pittsford (#1) will take on Fairport (#2) and HF-L (#1) will play Pal-Mac (#2) in the championship rounds next Wednesday.

Penfield vs FairportTop seeded Pittsford defeated fourth seeded Hilton 13-5 in the first of the two back-to-back Semi-Final matchups played at Webster Thomas. The game was a close for the first half, before Pittsford scored five unanswered in the third quarter and pulled ahead. The Cadets scored the final goal of the game, but Pittsford scored eight unanswered goals, spanning the second through fourth quarters. Pittsford advances to the Finals for the sixth time in eight years (2 wins in 2015 and 2011; 3 losses in 2016, 2014 and 2010).

Second seeded Fairport came to play and defeated Penfield 13-9. The Red Raiders scored the first four goals and held Penfield scoreless into the second quarter. The Patriots fought back hard for the entirety of the game, but never got closer than 2 goals. Fairport was led in scoring by TJ Hendricks with 4g-2a. Jake Bucci (4g-1a) and Spencer Bell (3g-1a) also added significant scoring for the Red Raiders. Fairport advances to the Finals for the sixth time in nine years (3 wins in 2014, 2012, 2010 and 2 losses in 2011 and 2009). They have not reached the finals since their win over Pittsford in 2014.

In the Aquinas vs HF-L game it was a tail of two halves. Aquinas scored the first goals and led into the third quarter but then the Cougars scored nine goals in a row and then coasted to a 12-7 lead. Andrew Mapstone led the Cigars with 3g-4a and Garrett Ruff added 4g-1a for HF-L.

Pal-Mac had a six goal second quarter and with Brian Burger scoring 2g-4a and Jared Hurlbutt making 15 saves in the Red Raider cage (65%), Pal-Mac punched their ticket to the finals with their win over Wayne.
