Monday: The Tournaments Begin
May 22, 2017 - DAY IN REVIEW: With one exception, the brackets played out as seeded on the first day of the 2017 tournaments. In the Class B, Irondequoit beat McQuaid. Irondequoit sophomore attackman Jack Brennan scored 4g-1a to lead the Eagles and in the cage, Patrick Hynes made 12 saves (80%). Irondequoit will move on to Victor on Wednesday. Webster Schroeder (#5) defeated Brockport (#12) after breaking a tie late in the first quarter. Eleven different players scored points for the Warriors. Schroeder will play at Brighton on Wednesday.
Churchville-Chili (#10) broke the bracket with their win over the Greece Thunder and will travel to Thomas for the next round. Mike Miara made 11 saves for the Saints (69%) and Jacob Buck (5g-1a) and Austin Orengo (4g-2a) led the offense. Spencerport (#6) took out Gates Chili (#11) with Charlie McMahon scoring six goals. The Rangers will go to Canandaigua for the quarters on Wednesday.
There were two out bracket games in the Class D tournament. Livonia (#8) defeated Marcus Whitman (#9) with Ryan Lambert (4g-2a) and Franz Leinders (2g-4a) leading the offense. The Bulldogs will play the top seeded Gananda on Wednesday. In the lower bracket, Mynderse beat Avon and will face second seeded Penn Yan. Nine Blue Devils made the offensive book with Ian Anderson scoring 4g-2a.
