Tuesday: Four Games Won by a Single Goal
April 4, 2017 - DAY IN REVIEW: Of the fourteen games played on this cloudy day with strong winds, four were won in exciting fashion and by a single goal.
Fairport junior Reese Burek scored with 2:38 remaining in the first overtime period to give the Red Raiders the 4-3 win over visiting Webster Schroeder. The Warriors scored all three of their goals in the opening quarter and led 3-1 after twelve minutes.
Although Canandaigua led throughout the first three quarters, Pittsford scored the last four goals of the game to secure a 10-9 win at Canandaigua tonight. Senior midfielder Colby Barker (3g-1a) score both the tying goal and the winning goal with just 0:14 left in regulation. John Galbraith and Frank Imburgia led the Panthers in gbs with four. Devin Andrews paced the Braves with 3g-1a and Carson Greene added 2g-1a. It was the first lacrosse game on the new stadium field at Canandaigua.
It was a come-from-behind win for Brockport as they fought back from as many as five goals to tie the game with 1:01 left in regulation. Eighth grade attackman Jeremy Hopsicker (2g-3a) scored both the tying goal and the winning goal (with 2:09 left in overtime. Hopsicker had averaged over five points per game in his first five games on the Varsity.
After a close game last week, Brighton got their first win of the season with an 11-10 victory over Churchville-Chili. This was the first time that Brighton had defeated Churchville-Chili since 2010. The Barons scored the first goal and although the game was tied once at 4-4, they never trailed. The Saints kept pace the entire game and scored the last two goals to take the game to one, however, they could not force overtime in the final four minutes. Brett Randall led the Barons with 5g-1a and Brady McDermott added 3g-4a.
Penfield and Hilton played a close game with the Patriots winning 14-10 after three lead changes. Leading the offense for Penfield were Joey Barboza (5g-2a and 7gbs) and Peter Schwab (5g-2a). The Cadets were led by Jordan DePetres (3-2). Junior face off specialist Mac Chamberlain won 12 of 15 face offs for Hilton. Webster Thomas played a close game with Irondequoit until they scored the last four goals in the game to win 14-8. Trevor Ford scored three of those goals and finished with five goals. Nick Mabe had 5g-1a for the Titans and Joe Luconte won 15 of 24 at the draw and led the lead with 5gbs. Webster goaltender Matt Yonko had 9s (53%).
A strong finished by Midlakes preserved their winning record (3-0)as they traveled to Waterloo for a 7-5 win. The Eagles scored the last four goals of the game with the Macdonell boys scoring three out of four. Ryan Macdonell scored 3g-1a and led the team Brandon Macdonell added one goal. It was the first victory by Midlakes over Waterloo since 2011.
Other winners today were Victor, Bloomfield-Honeoye, Geneva, Eastridge, HF-L and Pal-Mac.
