Greece Holds Off Late HFL Push with OT Win

- Greece Storm fought off the late push by HFL to defeat the Cougars 10-9 in the first overtime period.  Greece led by four with ten minutes left in regulation.  HFL scored four goals to force overtime.  However, Matthew McHale scored for the Storm with 0:54 left in the first overtime period.  The Storm controlled the entire game, and although HFL tied the game twice (1-1 and 9-9), Greece never trailed.  They also held a four goal lead at three different points before HFL’s late stretch forced overtime.

Greece scored first with Nicholas Leonardi scoring unassisted with 5:43 left in the first quarter.  Shane Olin forced the first tie with an unassisted goal only 34 seconds later.  The Storm scored the final goal of the first quarter to lead 2-1 after 12 minutes.  The scoring in the second was mostly back and forth with the Storm scoring the first and last to put them up by two going into the half (5-3).

In the third, Jacob Holdaway and Leonardi scored back to back to give the Storm the first four goal lead at 7-3.  They continued to alternate goals until Trevor Gillard scored with 9:14 left in the fourth with Greece leading 9-5.  Of the final four goals for the Cougars, Josh Barski scored two with Peter Romig and Olin scoring the other two.  The last HFL goal was scored with 3:53 left in regulation.  Neither team could convert in the final four minutes of regulation or three minutes of overtime.  McHale scored the game winner to give Greece their 11th win of the season.
