Victor Holds Off JD for Win in Season Opener 2018-03-29 - Victor scored the first three goals of the contest and led the entire game in their 13-10 win over Jamesville-Dewitt. Although the Red Rams kept the game close in the second half, they never tied the game. Victor scored seven of the first eight goals before JD began their comeback with six of the next seven. Since 2003, Victor and JD have played four times with each team now winning twice.
Victor’s opening three goals were each scored approximately one minute apart and were all unassisted drives to the cage. Joey Pezzimenti, Sam Lambert and Mitchell Cain each scored for the Blue Devils. Two minutes later, JD got on the board with a feed from Johnny Keib to Connor Durkin. Durkin led the Red Rams in scoring with 3g. Keib finished with 1g-2a. Victor kept up the pressure in the first quarter. Andrew Russell and Alexander Mabbett added one goal each to finish out the first 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, Victor added another two goals to pull ahead 7-1. Pezzimenti and Mabbett scored their second goals of the night, this time with assists. Fifteen minutes into the contest and the Blue Devils had the game well in hand. JD responded with six of the next seven goals to pull back within a single goal. Each of the six goals was scored by a different Red Ram. The game stayed close for a little over 12 minutes spanning the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth.
Near the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter, Victor added another three straight goals to pull ahead and secure the win. JD fought back until the end but couldn’t get within two goals. Midfielder Tucker Hill finished 11/15 at the face-off draw for the Blue Devils and Regan Endres finished 7/10. Both added four ground balls to the count. Leading in ground balls for Victor was Kyler Roth with six.
The contest was held indoors at the Pinnacle facility in Victor. It was the first local high school game played indoors. Last year Hobart played Penn State in the same site. |
