Irondequoit Pulls Ahead in Final Quarter

- After seven ties, Irondequoit pulled away and defeated Pittsford 11-8 in their season opener.  This was the first time that the Eagles have defeated the Panthers since 2012.  The Panthers are 14-8 since 2003 and had won the last five times that the teams had met.

Irondequoit opened the scoring with an unassisted goal from Kessel Stefano with 8:48 remaining in the opening quarter.  Stefano finished with 2g-1a for the Eagles.  Pittsford came back with their first goal two minutes later with an unassisted goal from John Avery.  Jack Brennan scored the first of his 3g to put the Eagles back on top.  Pittsford followed up with back to back goals from John Mozrall to give them their first lead.  Mozrall finished with 4g to lead the Panthers.

The teams continued to alternate goals over the next two quarters until Irondequoit scored both the final goal of the third quarter and the first goal of the fourth quarter.  Quinn Simonson finished up the third quarter with an unassisted goal with 1:39 remaining to tie the game at 6-6.  Brennan scored his second of the night to put the Eagles back on top for the first time since 4:01 in the first quarter.  Just over one minute later Mozrall scored his fourth goal to tie the game for the seventh and final time with 7:23 remaining.

Irondequoit responded with a three goal streak to secure their win.  Stefano, Simonson and Phil Barilla each added one goal over the next five minutes.  Pittsford added one more goal late in the game with Ben DiGiovanni scoring his lone goal of the game.  With 0:37 left on the clock, the Eagles scored their final goal with another unassisted goal from Brennan.
