Thomas Spoils Hamburg Perfect Season

-  SPORTSFIVE REPORT:  Webster Thomas played a closed game with the previously undefeated Hamburg Bulldogs and came out on top with a 12-10 scored at All High Stadium in Buffalo (Section VI).

Senior midfielder Evan Hollfelder, who has been instrumental in the Bulldog success this season, scored the first of his 6g-3a at 10:30 on a drive from the front. The "big man" from Webster Thomas, Travis Ford, tied the game two minutes later. The game continued to go back and forth with neither team taking more than a one goal lead. The quarter finished with a tie at 3-3.

Hollfelder scored again to start the second quarter and Scott Ramaeker added another for the Bulldogs before Pierce Currie received a feed from Trevor Ford and Brad Smith scored on a loose ball on the crease to tie the game at 5-5. Hollfelder scored again and Currie (assisted by Travis Ford) tied the game at the half at 6-6.

At the top pf the third quarter the game was tied again at 7-7 after which Travis Ford gave the Titans a lead at 8-7 and they never lost the lead again. At the end of the third quarter Thomas was up 10-7 and early in the last quarter the Bulldogs took scored two goals to get close at 10-9, but goals by Nick Mabe and Travis Ford gave the Titans a 12-9 lead. Hamburg scored a man up goal to end the game at 12-10.

Sophomore goalie Matt Yonko had a good day in the cage for the Titans, making numerous "big saves" at important times. He ended the game with 13 saves (57%). In the cage for Hamburg was sophomore backup goalie, Mason Lavelle who was filling in for starter Seth Graber, who was sick, but on the bench with his teammates.

Senior midfielder Travis Ford was out to make a statement, controlling the ball and the tempo for the Titans. Figuring in on nine of the twelve goals he ended the game with 6g-3a.

Next up for Thomas is the final four where they will play Jamesville-DeWitt (Section III) at Cicero-North Syracuse High School at 3:30 on Wednesday.
