2016-04-16 - In the three years that Pittsford has face Duxbury, the Panthers have won all three. Today, Pittsford won 6-5. The Panthers have scored six goals each year with Duxbury scoring 5 in 2014, 2 in 2015 and 5 this year. When the Dragons held Pittsford to six last season it was the smallest amount the Panthers were held to all year. Duxbury is a nine-time Mass State Champion.
The game was contested throughout the entire 48 minutes. Pittsford trailed for 36 minutes and until their final goal. Neither team scored in the final quarter. Duxbury scored the opening goal with Riley Bergstrom finding Bobby Maimaron open on the crease. Just less than one minute later Matt Malone tied the game with a fast-break goal. Jonathan Perotto assisted on that goal. Perotto was demonstrative in the contest and finished with 3g-2a. He was a part of five out of six panther goals. The Dragons took the lead again with a man-up goal from Nick Locante (assisted by Maimaron). They led 2-1 after the first quarter.
The Dragons kept up the pressure and took the largest lead by either team with a goal from Joseph Gooley. Gooley score on a dodge from the top of the box. The Panthers scored the next two goals to tie the game at 3-3 going into halftime. Perotto assisted Connor Fitzgerald on an outside shot. Three minutes later Perotto scored his first goal on a fast-break goal (assisted by Jack Kaufman).
Duxbury kept their streak of scoring the first goal of the quarter with Albert Schemp scoring on another man-up goal. Schemp was assisted by Bergstrom. The Dragons remained in the lead for eight minutes before Perotto tied the game again with another outside shot on a man-up attempt for the Panthers. With 1:55 remaining in the third quarter Duxbury scored the final goal with a drive from behind the cage by Maimaron. Pittsford scored their last two goals in the final two minutes of the third quarter. Both goals were assisted by Colby Barker. The first was on man-up with a feed to Kaufman and the second was an inside feed to Perotto on the crease.
The final quarter had both teams attempting goals, but neither team could convert. In the cage for Duxbury, Brady Burke finished at 65% with 11 saves. For the Panthers, Alec Star was at 64% with 9 saves. The Panthers remain one of six undefeated teams in Section Five. They face Fairport on Tuesday at home.
