Rush-Henrietta 12 - Hilton 11 in Overtime 2015-05-19 - In the closest game of the tournament so far, fourth seeded Rush-Henrietta scored just 0:07 into overtime to defeat fifth seeded Hilton. After trailing 8-4 at halftime, the Royal Comets fought back hard in the second half, outscoring Hilton 8-3 in the final twenty-four minutes. Attackman Nick Lenhard was the big scorer for the Royal Comets with 4g-1a. Collin Waden finished with 3g-1a including the game winning goal in the opening seconds of overtime. A major factor for the R-H win came from face-off midfielder Sam Schubach who finished with 69% and was demonstrative at the draw. He gave the Royal Comets a number of possessions, including the first in over time, which allowed for the win.
R-H scored the first two goals to quickly set the pace of the game. The opening goal was scored by Curtis Raymond, the first of his two, with a drive from the right side of the cage. Five minutes later Brandon Waden fed Lenhard for his first goal. After scoring the opening two, R-H was held scoreless for the next twelve minutes while Hilton added on six.
The Cadets scored five goals to end the first quarter and the opening goal of the second quarter before R-H scored again. Zakk Mount scored with a cross-crease feed from Jared Gates. Next, Zeus Doser scored the first of his 4g-5a for the Cadets on an inside dodge near the crease. Doser was involved in 75% (9/12) of the goals for Hilton. Two minutes later Doser had back to back feeds into the crease to Michael Richardson less than fifteen seconds apart. Doser added another inside dodge as time expired in the first quarter. Hilton led 5-2 after the first quarter.
Attackman Shawn Kimble fed the crease to Richardson for his third goal of the game to five Hilton a four goal lead. R-H scored the next two with a man-up goal from Lenhard (assisted by Schubach) and a fast break goal from Lenhard to Waden. Hilton kept control of the pacing and scored two more going into halftime. Kimble fed Doser inside on the crease and Doser fed Hunter Duford from behind the cage after he picked up a missed shot. Hilton led 8-4 going into halftime.
As noted above, R-H was a completely different team in the second half. RH outscored Hilton 3-1 in third and 4-2 in the fourth to force overtime. Brad Schillinger scored his lone goal of the game with a dodge at the cage to start off the quarter. Midfielder Jake Hughes scored off a drive from behind the cage to bring the game within two. Hilton tried to slow the pace with an outside shot from Justin Goodrich (assisted by Doser). But RH added another with a fast-break during a man-up situation with Hughes assisting Lenhard. Hilton still led 9-7 after three.
With back to back goals in the first 0:36, RH tied the game for the first time since early in the first quarter. Lenhard scored another man-up goal and TJ Day assisted Waden on face-off fast-break to tie the game. Hilton took back the lead with a feed from behind from Doser to Goodrich. Hilton held the lead for six minutes before Hughes scored off a drive from the top left. Hilton once again took the lead just over a minute later with Goodrich assisting Doser.
The game tying goal was an impressive effort from Waden. After picking up the loose ball near the end line, Hilton attempted to clear the ball. Waden jumped the pass and forced the ball to the crease. With goalie Jarod Kimble out of position it was an easy goal for Raymond. Kimble finished with eleven recorded saves for the Cadets. R-H got the ball after a technical face-off win but could not capitalize in the final sixty seconds. Schubach picked up his own ground ball in overtime and found Waden open for the game winning goal.
Between the pipes for R-H, Colin Mix finished with four saves. Schubach led in team with eleven ground balls. Midfielder Pat Burns and defenseman Armand Florio each had four ground balls for the Cadets. The Royal Comets move on to face Pittsford on Friday at 5:00 pm at Webster Thomas.
