Big Win for Hilton Over CA 2015-04-07 - NOTES: Hilton has faced Canandaigua 3 times in the last 10 years and came into tonight’s contest 1-1 against the Braves. With tonight’s 10-8 win the Cadets now take the lead in the series 2-1. The first time the teams faced in 2010 Canandaigua won 15-4. One year later the Cadets came back for a 13-12 victory, outscoring the Braves 5-1 in the final quarter.
Tonight’s game was a back and forth struggle with five lead changes. Hilton came out swinging with the first here goals of the contest. Michael Richardson scored the opening goal with an assist from Hunter Duford. Duford assisted the next goal as well, this time to Zeus Doser during man-up. The Cadets scored two of the ten goals in extra man offense. Timothy Santiago scored with 3:29 remaining in the opening quarter (assisted by Justin Goodrich) to take a 3-0 lead for Hilton. The Cadets were held scoreless for the next nine minutes while the Braves scored four unanswered goals to take their first lead. Patrick Bay scored the first of his two goals to end the opening quarter 3-1 Hilton.
Connor Hulme, Bay and Matt Boseck scored the opening three goals of the second quarter for the Braves. Boseck’s goal was assisted by Ben Smith-Wilcox. Smith-Wilcox finished with a team leading 10 shots for the Braves with nine on cage and two goals. Senior goalie Jarod Kimble had a stand out game with 14 saves (64%) and half of his saves came off from Smith-Wilcox. After losing the lead, it took less than two minutes for Hilton to re-tie the game at 4-4. Shawn Kimble scored with an assist for Doser. The Cadets added the next two goals to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
Canandaigua took halftime to regroup and came out strong. Hulme scored the opening goal of the half only 0:27 into play with an unassisted goal. Smith-Wilcox scored his first with a man-up goal to tie the game at 6-6. A six minute stretch without scored held the game tied before Hulme assisted Joe Como to game the Braves their second lead of the contest. Duford, a junior, continued to dominate and scored the last four goals for Hilton. He scored three unanswered goals in 58 seconds to take his team from down by one to up by two. The third quarter ended with Hilton leading 9-7. Each team added a single goal in the final quarter. Smith-Wilcox scored, unassisted, with 9:42 remaining and Duford scored man-up with 1:33 remaining (assisted by Santiago). The Cadet defense stepped up in the final quarter. The Braves pounded the cage with 17 shots in the final quarter with Kimble coming up with seven of his 14 saves in the final quarter and saving the last five shots on cage (four from Smith-Wilcox). Conversely, Hilton held the ball when given the opportunity and only took two shots in the quarter (including the man-up goal).
