Aquinas 10 - McQuaid Jesuit 9 in Overtime 2014-04-29 - Aquinas scored the last three goals of regulation to force overtime and then scored the game winning goal 2:08 into the first overtime period as they defeated McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. The Little Irish trailed by three goals with 5:12 remaining in regulation. Jonathan Olbrich scored the last three goals for Aquinas (the final two in regulation and the game winner in overtime). The overtime goal was scored during a man-up play with an assist from Alex Bianchi.
McQuaid Jesuit started off the scoring with the opening goal 6:31 into play. Shawn Nally scored the first of his 3g-2a for the Knights unassisted. Three minutes later Jamison Whitfield scored the first of his 3g-1a to tie the game for the first of five times. The second quarter began with a two goal run from the Knights when Joe Hayes and Jack Flowerday scored. Aquinas then came back with three goals in less than two minutes. Whitfield scored his second and Greer Leva added two back to back goals for the Little Irish. Aquinas took their first lead of the game with 0:16 remaining in the opening half. McQuaid Jesuit won the final face off and tied the game with only 0:03 remaining on the clock. The game was tied 4-4 going into halftime.
The third quarter was a lot of back and forth with McQuaid Jesuit taking a one goal lead into the fourth quarter. McQuaid Jesuit led 7-6 going into the final twelve minutes. They came out strong, adding the next two goals. Jake Gleason scored (unassisted) and Nally scored with an assist from Ryan Nelson. With 5:12 remaining the Knights led by three. Olbrich tied the game up with a pair of goals both assisted by midfielder Nick Tschetter. In overtime, Aquinas won the face off and never gave McQuaid Jesuit a shot at the goal.
Defenseman Liam Smith and midfielder Whitfield led the Little Irish with six ground balls each. Midfielder Terrance Richards added five ground balls and Olbrich added three.
