Victor Takes Revenge on CA 2014-03-29 - After ending their season last year in a triple overtime during the Class B Finals, Victor was looking for revenge against Canandaigua. The Blue Devils scored the final three goals in this game to defeat the Braves 12-10. A major factor in the victory was Canandaigua`s inability to stay out of the penalty box. The Braves had eleven penalties for sixteen minutes including four multiple minute non-releasable penalties (two, two minute penalties and two, three minute penalties). Victor scored five man-up goals during the contest.
The Blue Devils scored the first two goals of the game. The first goal was a man-up goal with Max Lambert assisting Dan Barrow. Barrow and Lambert both finished with 2g-2a for Victor. Three minutes later Ryan Maloney scored the first of his 4g-1a with an unassisted goal. It took until 3:58 remaining in the opening quarter for the Braves to get on the board. They scored on an unassisted goal by Mitchell Schaefer. Although TD Ierlan finished 19/25 (76%)for Victor, he lost the next face-off with long stick Joe Eddinger picking up the ground ball and taking the ball to the cage to tie the game only 10 seconds after scoring their first goal. Victor tacked on a late goal with Maloney scoring unassisted to take the 3-2 lead going into the second quarter.
Canandaigua came out swinging for the second quarter. They scored the first three goals (all unassisted). Brian Feldman scored back to back goals less than one minute apart and Eric Munn scored two minutes later. With 5:17 remaining in the second quarter, Canandaigua led 5-3. Victor scored their second man-up goal with the same scoring as their first (Barrow from Lambert) to keep the game close going into halftime. The Braves led 5-4.
Schaefer scored his second (of three) to regain a two goal lead for the Braves. The next two goals were both scored during a double non-releasable man-up situation (for two minutes). Maloney scored unassisted followed by Barrow assisting Cory Mason. The game was tied with 2:41 remaining in the third quarter. With 0:05 left, Victor accidentally had the ball go into the net, giving Canandaigua the lead, 7-6.
In the final quarter, Victor came back and outscored the Braves 6-3. The opening minute was back and forth as both teams scored off the face-off. Victor scored nineteen seconds into the quarter with Dan Barrow assisting Patrick Barrow. Fifteen seconds after that, Brian Feldman scored with an assist from Eric Munn. The Braves kept up their pressure and scored again with Schaefer adding his third goal of the night. With 10:10 remaining in the game, Canandaigua led by two. Victor scored back to back goals one minute apart to tie the game. Maloney scored his fourth goal (again unassisted) and Mike DeMarco assisted Lambert for another man-up goal for the Blue Devils. The final Canandaigua goal was scored by Tyelor Dingman (assisted by Schaefer) with 6:52 remaining in the quarter.
The final three goals of the game were scored by Victor with Lambert scoring the first and Kyle Pooler scoring the second and third. Maloney and Luke Bartkoski assisted Pooler`s goals. The Blue Devils spent a majority of the final three minutes playing keep-away in an attempt to hold the lead. Pooler`s second goal only came after Canandaigua had pulled their goalie to try to take the ball away.
In the cage for Victor, Brennan Mackey finished with four recorded saves. For Canandaigua, Luke MacNeil finished with 16 saves (57%). |
