Fifth Seeded Thomas Defeats Fourth Seeded McQ

- Thomas won another low scoring game with a 5-4 win over McQuaid Jesuit.  The Titans (5th seed) defeated Knights (4th seed) with a slow methodical pacing to the game.  Throughout the contest, both teams were slow to go to the cage.  They took their time before capitalizing and that led to a mostly back and forth contest.  Both teams led with the game only being more than one goal apart a single time.

Cade Spencer scored the game opener to put Thomas up 1-0.  Spencer scored unassisted with 7:30 left on the clock in the first quarter.  McQuaid Jesuit responded with their own goal as time expired in the quarter.  Maxfield Ettinghausen scored unassisted to tie the game up after 12 minutes (1-1).  In the second half, McQuaid Jesuit opened up the scoring to take their first lead of the game.  Ettinghausen scored again, this time off a feed from Nicholas Opett.  Thomas added their second goal five minutes later with David Petz scoring unassisted off a single drive to the cage.  The score remained tied (2-2) at the half.

The third quarter saw the most scoring with Thomas adding two and McQuaid Jesuit adding one.  The Titans scored the first and last goals of the quarter with Evan Pashalidis and Reed Currie scoring.  The lone Knight’s goal was scored by Alex Klimowski.  Thomas led a 4-3 lead going into the final 12 minutes.  Petz scored his second goal of the night three minutes into the quarter to give Thomas a two goal lead.  They held that lead for the next seven minutes before McQuaid scored their only goal of the quarter.  Ryan McEvily scored with 2:46 left on the clock to pull within one; however, the Knights could not score again to force overtime.  Thomas moves on to play top seeded Canandaigua on Saturday.
