# 2960  2019 Season Wrap Up

Batavia joined with both Attica and Notre Dame (to form what we canlled BAND) and otherwise the teams remained the same with thirty-five playing in Section Five this year. There were 1,129 players on the rosters at the during of the season and 914 on the final rosters. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty-one players and Spencerport had the smallest with sixteen.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse recently announced the 2019 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 13th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 6:00 PM and the girls' play at 8:00 PM.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2019 season. Senior  defenseman Sutton Boland (Victor), senior attackman Jack Brennan (Irondequoit) and senior face off midfielder Shawn Fingar (Hilton) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

After trailing for nearly the entire game, Irondequoit came back to take their first lead early in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles won in the first overtime period 9-8 over McQuaid Jesuit.  The Knights took the early lead with 4 of the first 5 goals; they led by three goals twice in the first half before Irondequoit came back to tie the game (6-6) at the half.

# 2861  Many Exciting Games Played on Thursday

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was a big day, with fifteen games and many exciting matchups and when they games were all played, there were five one-goal games and a number of suprising finishes including Brighton at Victor, where they Barons won a 12-8 victory. Brockport was a 9-8 winner over Gates Chili, Greece was a 7-6 winner over Spencerport, Rush-Henrietta was a 6-5 winner over HF-L, Pittsford was an 11-10 winner over Irondequoit and Schroeder was an 8-7 winner over Penfield. Hilton beat Thomas 9-3. It was only the second time the Cadets (7-2) have won against the Titans.

# 2847  Schroeder and Canandaigua Win in Close Ones

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With 0:17 left in the first overtime period, senior midfielder Noah Germano scored to give the Warriors a 14-13 victory over Wayne. Josh Hauman led Schroeder with 5g-2a and Cole Bolin added 3g-2a. Andy Hamel (5g-1a) and John Reagan (2g-5a) led the Wayne offense. Wayne was the last undefeated team in the section.

# 2822  Irondequoit Defeats Thomas for First Time Since 2012

For the first time since April of 2012, Irondequoit defeated Webster Thomas.  The Eagles took over in the second half and outscored Thomas 7-3 in the second half during their 11-8 win over the Titans.  The Eagles scored five of the last seven goals to move from a tied 6-6 game.  Conversely, the Titans had a strong opener with four of the first five goals scored by Thomas.  Each of the game was scored by a different athlete (Stevie Katz, Evan Pashalidis, Reed Currie, Nick Vasile).  Leading in scoring for Irondequoit was Jack Brennan with 1g-5a.  For Thomas, three different players recorded 2 points.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: R-H won their third game with a win against Livonia-Avon. After leading for the majority of three quarters, RH had to fight back in the final five minutes to defeat Livonia-Avon 10-9. The Royal Comets had not scored in over 12 minutes when Nick Cowie scored the game winning goal with 0:17 left in regulation. (Story Continues).

In the third quarter of the Class C finals Penn Yan proved why they have won 21 Section Five Titles. This year was their sixth in a row and 18th in the last 19 years.

With the semifinals concluded, the teams are set for the 2016 Section Five Championships. Victor will play Pittsford in Class A, Thomas will play Canandaigua in Class B and Penn Yan will play Aquinas in Class C.

In a game that see-sawed back and forth, Thomas scored the winning goal in overtime to defeat Pittsford 12-11. On the other end of town Penfield defeated Schroeder by a goal in the last minute of the game.

There were sixteen games played today as the regular season is starting to wind down. Pittsford came from behind to beat host Corning 8-7 in the closest game of the day. Thomas took Irondequoit by two (12-10) and Gananda beat Mynderse 11-8.

The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

# 1410  Week in Review: Week 8

The regular season ended on Friady with four of the five games played having an impact of the tournament seeding. Fairport, for example, played Corning and earned a 75% season with their win. Everyone team that played Fairport this year earned additional points toward seeding with that win. The Tournament seeding was released on Friday night and the games will begin on May 21st. Three hundred and eight games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only five games left in the regular season eight games were played today. Canandaigua (9-7) had eight players on the offensive book as they defeated Pal-Mac (10-6). Mark Belles had 2g-2a for the Braves. Geneva (10-6) was a 12-5 victor over visiting Greece Dugan Doeblin scored five goals and senior goalie Jacob Drennen finished with 11 saves (73%) for the Panthers. After a close half which saw Thomas (14-2) ahead 4-3, the Titans took control in their victory 11-5 over Pittsford (8-8).

There were rainy days but also a couple of days with sunshine last week . One hundred and eighty-one games have been played thus far. Webster Thomas (10-0) beat Penfield and Hilton to remain the only undefeated team at this point. Gananda (7-1) lost to the Greece Storm last week. Fourty-five (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won thirty-one (69%). Victor, Thomas, HFL, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues with undefeated league records.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2.

And then there were none, as the last undefeated team lost. In a greatly anticipated game this afternoon, the Blue Devils took a four goal lead and never lost it, even though the Tttans scored three goals in the last eight minutes to bring the game within one. Victor saw offense from eight different players with Camden Hay leading with 3g and Sam Lambert added 3a. Trevor Ford led the Titans with four goals, two of which were scored in the last minute of the game.

Pittsford fended off a last minute barrage from Fairport, Brighton saw a goal from Lukas Stanat (5g) to break their tie with Hilton and Cullen Coons scored his third goal of the game in the first overtime period to give Livonia-Avon the 17-16 win over Marcus Whitman.

In a game that was dictated by halves, Thomas played a dominating first half to defeat Irondequoit 10-7.  The Titans led 8-1 late in the second quarter and although the Eagles attempted to fight back, the deficit was too large.  They never got the score closer than two goals.  The Titans remain undefeated at 4-0 with their closest matchup of the season.

After seven ties, Irondequoit pulled away and defeated Pittsford 11-8 in their season opener.  This was the first time that the Eagles have defeated the Panthers since 2012.  The Panthers are 14-8 since 2003 and had won the last five times that the teams had met.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year.

With one exception, the brackets played out as seeded on the first day of the 2017 tournaments. In the Class B, Irondequoit beat McQuaid. Irondequoit sophomore attackman Jack Brennan scored 4g-1a to lead the Eagles and in the cage, Patrick Hynes made 12 saves (80%). Irondequoit will move on to Victor on Wednesday.

A five goal run in the fourth quarter gave Hilton (5-9) a win against host Brighton (6-7) tonight on Senior Night. Hilton took their first lead of the game with 6:12 remaining in the fourth quarter and held off Brighton’s attempt at a comeback to defeat the Barons 13-11. Brighton played three strong quarters before Hilton took over in the fourth. The Cadets scored five unanswered goals spanning just over 4 minutes in the final quarter to secure the win.

In what some were calling a possible Class B final, Victor took an 8-1 half to a 17-3 win against Webster Thomas as nine Blue Devils made the offensive scorebook. Freshman attackman Joey Pezzimenti led the scoring with 4g-1a. Chayse Ierlan made 13s (87%) in 38 minutes for Victor. Nick Mabe scored 2g for Thomas.

Irondequoit held off the late advances by Churchville-Chili to defeat the Saints 14-12.  The game was close for the first half, before Irondequoit took off in the second half on the back of Jack Brennan.  Brennan had 1g-2a in the first half and 6g-1a in the second half.  His was part of 7/9 goals in the second half.

# 1207  Penfield Holds Lead to Defeat Eagles

Penfield scored the opening goal of the game and although Irondequoit tied the game three times, the Patriots never trailed.  Penfield played a strong offensive game and held possession for large chunks of time.  Their settled offense forced Irondequoit to rush when they did have the ball on offense.  Patrick Hynes was a defensive standout for the Eagles.  He repeatedly made saves that he had no business making and kept Irondequoit in the game.

Six different players made the offensive book for the Patriots. Leading the pack was Joey Barboza with 3g-3a. Senior midfielder Peter Schwab was the ground ball leader with nine. For the Warriors (3-5), Ryan Dorney was the offensive leader with 2g-1a.

March 28, 2017 - Irondequoit scored the last four goals to defeat Webster Schroeder 5-4 this afternoon.  The Warrior did not score in the final 26 minutes spanning three quarters.  Sophomore Jack Brennan finished with 4 of the 5 goals for the Eagles.  Goalie Patrick Hynes was a major player and finished with 12 saves.

The Sweetlax Lacrosse Club sent a rising freshman team to the Inside Lacrosse Invitational Recruiting Tournament where they went 6-0 and took first place. The tournament, held at Goucher College (Baltimore, MD), was held from July 20-22. Sweetlax outscored opponents 75-25, allowed no more than seven goals against. The closed game, against FLG 2019 was 9-5.

Irondequoit fought back from a three goal deficit to defeat Aquinas 8-7 in a night game at home. The Eagles scored three goals in the final quarter to tie the game and take the lead with 5:43 remaining. Kessel Stefano scored three goals for Irondequoit, including the goal to take the lead.

Sophomore midfielder Garrett Ruff scored the final four goals for HF-L to give them a 9=8 victory and their first win over Irondequoit in program history. The Eagles led for nearly the entire game before Ruff brought them on top with 7:53 remaining in the game. Although both teams had chances in the final minutes, the Cougars were able to hold off any additional scoring for Irondequoit.

The Titans never led and only tied the game twice (9-9 and 10-10). They took their first lead in sudden victory overtime to secure their win and move into the Finals. Irondequoit controlled the game for nearly three full quarters before Thomas fought back at the end of the third.

Top seeded Penn Yan scored nearly all their goals in a set of two runs to defeat third seeded Aquinas 9-7. The Little Irish played the first half extremely well and led 3-0 and 4-1 before the Mustangs began to get their feet under them.
