Fairport Over Pittsford for Championship

- Fairport vs Pittsford

Pittsford`s starting defense played three excellent quarters and one mediocre quarter, but that last quarter was enough for Fairport to come up with a win with 0:16 left in regulation. The Red Raiders scored six goals in the final quarter, including the last five in their 7-6 win over the Panthers. Pittsford`s Mike Perotto, Nick Panara, Greg Weyl and Colby Barker played a great game and had standout performances. Face off midfielder Ryan Fairbrother finished at 60% (9/16) and with a team leading five ground balls. In the cage, Kevin Maguire finished with 12 saves (63%) for the Panthers. Maguire along with Fairport goalie Joey Scalise were both named to the All Tournament Team for their play. Scalise finished at 60% with nine saves. Perotto and Panara were named to the All Tournament team in defense.Fairport vs Pittsford

Pittsford started off strong in the first half, scoring three goals and holding the Red Raiders scoreless. The Panthers scored two first quarter goals. Both were during man-up situations for the Panthers. The first came with 4:50 remaining with Owen Smith assisting Billy Cooper from behind the cage as the penalty was released. With 0:08, Jonathan Perotto scored with an outside shot and an assist from Brandon Barker. Pittsford added a single goal in the second quarter with Stephen Quinzi picking up a loose ball behind the cage and driving around the left side for the unassisted goal. Quinzi was named to the All Tournament team for Pittsford. The quarter concluded with a conduct foul followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct foul. Pittsford began the third quarter with the ball.

Three minutes into the quarter, Pittsford added their fourth goal with a high crease feed from James Felix to Barker. 28:55 into the contest the Red Raiders scored their first goal. Dan McAvoy scored unassisted with an outside shot to put Fairport on the board. McAvoy finished the game with 2g and was named to the All Tournament team for Fairport. His younger brother, freshman Kyle McAvoy, was also added to the team after a stellar performance in the semi and quarter final rounds. The teams continued to alternate scoring with Brandon Barker scoring for the Panthers and McAvoy scoring his second for the Red Raiders to open the fourth quarter.

Fairport vs PittsfordIn the fourth quarter, McAvoy scored only 0:34 into the quarter to give Fairport their second goal. Fifteen seconds later, Panara picked up the ball at the face-off and scored on a fast-break to give Pittsford their final goal with 11:11 remaining in regulation. Fairport scored the last five goals with goals from Kesselring (2), Brent Mazurkiewicz, Nick Orsini and the game winning goal from Ryan Bowen with 0:16 remaining on the clock.

Pittsford`s defense continued to play well, not stellar, in the fourth quarter; however it was the Red Raider offense that stepped up. This included midfielder Shane Cronkwright who finished at 40% for the game, but who won five straight face-offs in the fourth quarter to continue to give Fairport the possessions. With about three minutes remaining the Panthers had the ball in their offensive end, but could not hold on to the ball and Fairport scored three goals in the last three minutes to take the lead.

In addition to those listed above, the following players made the All Tournament team: Midfielder Brandon Barker (Pittsford), LSM Allen Thibodeau (Fairport), Defenseman Ryan Nugent (Thomas) and Justin Kesselring (Fairport). Kesselring was named the MVP. At the conclusion of the game the Nick Panara from Pittsford was announced as the Defensive Player of the year.
