Thomas Over Irondequoit

- NOTES:  In a game that was plagued by penalties, second seeded Webster Thomas defeated sixth seeded Irondequoit 14-12. The first half was relatively tame with two personal penalties and one technical. However, in the second half there were nine personals and seven technical. Although Irondequoit scored the opening goal, the Titans tied or led the game for 47:52 of the 48:00 contest. The game was only tied once at 1-1 before the Titans took the 2-1 lead and although the Eagles kept the game close and appeared to be ready to take the game, they never were tied again.

Victor vs IrondequoitDaniel Doktor scored the opening goal of the game with a dodge from the left side of the cage. Doktor finished with a team leading 4 goals. Three other Eagles scored 2g-1a (Andrew Knope, John Lombardi and Trevor Carney). Thomas scored three goals straight. Eight seconds after Doktor`s goal, face off midfielder Cam Isaac won the draw himself and found Christian Nairy open for the goal. Isaac finished at 53% (8/15). He also led the Titans in ground balls with six. Isaac scored the second goal with an outside shot and Nairy scored the third goal off and inside feed from Kevin Hill. Hill was the leading scorer for the Titans with 6g-2a. He finished with 16 shots (10 on cage) and was responsible for 40% of the shots for the Thomas. Irondequoit scored the final goal of the quarter with a drive from behind the cage by Doktor. Thomas led 3-2 after the first quarter.

Thomas vs IrondequoitThe Titans increased their lead to three goals after the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 4-2 in the second quarter. The opening goal of the quarter was an impressive inside dodge from Matt Fiore. The teams alternated goals until Thomas scored two back to back with a 5-4 goal from Hill (assisted by Isaac) and an unassisted goal from Hill. The latter Hill goal was scored after he stripped the ball off a defenseman and scored. Thomas led 7-4 at the halftime.

Irondequoit came back in the third quarter and cut the Thomas lead to one. Lombardi scored his first goal of the game with a dodge to the crease at 11:15 remaining. Both teams scored of face-off fast-breaks to have 3 more goals scored in 26 seconds. Thomas scored two back to back goals with Isaac scoring unassisted at 11:09 and 11:00. Doktor scored an unassisted goal with an inside dodge at 10:49. The Eagles kept up their pressure and scored four out of five straight goals. When the penalties began to pile up in the third and fourth quarter, four goals were scored in man-up situations (three for IQ and one for RLT). The next three goals were all scored man-up: Carney for Irondequoit, Hill for Thomas, and Carney for Irondequoit. The final goal of the quarter was another goal from Knope with a drive along the left side. Thomas led 10-9 after three.

Thomas scored back to back goals to start off the fourth quarter and basically secure their win. Hill scored on fast-break and then less than one minute later Fiore scored on another fast-break. Scoring continued to alternate for the remainder of the contest. Titan goalie Davis Bird had an outstanding game between the pipes and accrued 15 saves (56%). Bird was a major factor in holding off a late Eagle advance. For Irondequoit, Max Eismann finished with 10 saves. John Lombardi led in ground balls with 10. Carney added four and defenseman Sean Keefe added three.

Thomas continues on to play top seeded Victor on Wednesday at St. John Fisher.
