Another Sophomore Commit: Schaefer to Penn State

- TrimboliRising sophomore, Mitch Schaefer announced yesterday that he has made a verbal commitment to Jeff Tambroni and expects to study and play lacrosse at the Penn State University.

Having played in both his eighth grade and freshman seasons with Canandaigua, the rising sophomore midfielder has contributed 28g-16a thus far. Last season he was named the Class B Tournament Most Valuable Player after the Braves defeated Victor in three overtime periods to win the Championship.

Off-season he plays for both the Canandaigua team and the SweetLax Lacrosse Club. With SweetLax he played at the King of the Hill and Crabfest tournaments and played in the Hot Beds and John Pepper Memorial Tournaments with Canandaigua.

Penn State announced this summer that they will play their final season with the Colonial Athletic League in 2014 and will be moving to the Big Ten league in 2015, a year before Schaefer will join the team.

Before making his selection Schaefer considered Syracuse, Notre Dame, Virginia, Maryland and Duke.
