- During their first season in Monroe County Division I, the Spartans finished 0-6 in league and 3-13 overall. Gates Chili was seeded twelfth in the tournament; however, they defeated higher seeded Gates Chili 2009Brockport 9-7 to make it into the quarter finals where they lost to Schroeder. Gates Chili will continue in Division I this season and will look for their first win in a tough division.

Graduation was tough on Gates Chili's defense but it sparred a majority of their offensive talent. The graduation of three year starting goalie Jason Baetzhold will hurt the Spartans. Baetzhold (who continues at Brockport) finished his career with 533 saves. Gates Chili also lost first team All County defenseman Adam Wacenske and Honorable Mention defenseman Zack Kemp to graduation. Wacenske continues to play lacrosse at FLCC this year.

Not all is lost for the Spartans with the return of senior Tyler Webb (50g-14a) who led in goals and points and junior Grant Ferguson (29g-25a) who led in assists. Webb, Ferguson and Steve Campaniello will lead the attack while returning senior Cam Gormel and sophomore Pete DiLaura will run from the midfield. Gormel was named Honorable Mention last season and Campaniello has play chosen to play at FLCC in the fall. Coach Mark Sweeney notes that he will look to seniors Webb, Ferguson and Gormel to lead the team as captains this season.

Defensively, the Spartans need to find players to step up and fill key positions early in the season. Coach Sweeney looks to new goalie, Brian Lane, to replace Baetzhold between the pipes. Lane has big shoes to fill for the Spartans and will need to step up early if Gates Chili hopes to compete in their tough division. Coach Sweeney says of Lane, "Brian is a very talented goalie who has played for FCA in summer tournaments."

With thirteen required games, the teams in Monroe County's divisions I and II are only able to schedule three out of league games. Coach Sweeney has scheduled tough additions in picking up Eastridge, Brighton and Aquinas.
