Saturday: Quarter Finals

May 21, 2005 - Geneva (#3) beat Brighton (#2) 17-6 and Waterloo (#3) beat Aquinas (#2) in the B/C tournament. In the Class A bracket, all of the higher seeded teams won, setting up the semi final round on Tuesday at Aquinas (Class A) and Irondequoit (Class B/C).
   
Fairport's Ryan Lowe scored first on an assist from Mike Danylyshyn at 11:02 and although Pittsford came back at 3:45 with a goal by Mike Peacock (from Justin Rand), it would be the only time the teams were tied, as the Red Raiders took a 3-1 first quarter to an 8_2 half and at 12-4 final at Fairport. Fairport's third goal was scored at 2:38 by Anthony DiMarsico (unassisted) and the last goal of the quarter was scored by Fairport's Jeff Sanna. The quarter ended with Fairport up 3-1.
  
The Red Raiders exploded in the second quarter with five unanswered goals. Danylyshyn scored on a feed from Peter Burkhardtt at 9:10, Pat Reilly scored unassisted at 8:12 and Reilly scored again at 4:55 on a pass from Burkhardtt. Tom Rynn scored an unassisted goal at 4:01 and Jake Fricano scored an unassisted goal at 3:23. Pittsford's Jake Boyce scored an unassisted goal at 0:31 and the half ended with Fairport up 8-2.
  
Both teams scored a single goal in the third. Pittsford came out first with an unassisted goal by Doug Johnson at 8:19 and Fairport came back at 6:51 with a goal by Danylyshyn on a feed from DiMarsico.
  
Fairport scored the next three in a row to start the last quarter. Sanna scored at 11:01. Burkhardtt scored on a feed from Rynn at 9:09 and Rynn scored unassisted at 6:49. The last goal of the game was scored by Pittsford's Johnson at 2:53.
  
Chris Jacobs made 18 saves for Pittsford and Geoff Mayor made 10 saves for Fairport who will now face Canandaigua in the semi final at Aquinas on Tuesday.  
   
 Schroeder won their quarter final game over Irondequoit 14-3 and dominated from start to finish. Mike Catalino took the opening face-off and scored the first of four first quarter goals. Jack Mooney and Tom Costanza finished the quarter scoring and gave Schroeder a 6-0 first quarter lead.
  
Webster was assessed a three minute stick penalty to start the second quarter. Irondequoit scored two goals in the first minute, but Schroeder's Jack Mooney scored while man down to turn the tide for Webster. Irondequoit did not score again until the third quarter.
  
The defensive unit of Matt Crandal, Mark Liberti, Drew Palmer, Jeremy Appell, Jason
Cirulli, John Pawluk all were an important element in the win. Mike Catalino won 6 of 9 and John Pawluk won 3 of 3 faceoffs for the Warriors
  
Schroeder's scoring came from Mike Catalino (6g-1a), Jack Mooney (3g-4a), Chris Ferry (2g-1a) and Tom Costanza (1g-2a). Jay Willmes and Joe Didia each added one goal and Jason Cirulli added an assist. Dennis Costanza finished with 10 saves and Andy Peter added one save for Schroeder who will face Penfield in a semi final game.
  
The loss marks then end of a remarkable career for Irondequoit Head Coach John Pratt who steps down after 28 years and more than 400 wins.
   
 Honeoye Falls-Lima was the 7-1 winner while using six different players in their quarter final game with visiting Victor. Scoring for the Cougars were Mike Cintineo (2g), Jeff Price (1g-2a), David Uzialko (1g-1a) and Cade Norris (1g-1a). John Cintineo and Connor Burgasser each added one goal. Mike Brisbane had 8 saves for HF-L who will take on Geneva on Tuesday at Irondequoit.
  
 Waterloo was a 15-4 winner at Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Dave Everett and Josh Mateo dominated the face off for the Indians. Jason Johnson (4g), Winston Boyd (3g-2a), Josh Mateo (1g-1a) and TJ Radka (2g-1a) led the scoring along with Bill Jolly (1g-3a) and Gordy Lahr (2g). Shawn Dunphy and Matt Haws each added one goal and Matt Kaiser added an assist for Waterloo. Pat DeBolt had 10 saves the Indians who will play Penn Yan on Tuesday.
  
 Senior face-off specialist Al Gianforti won 16 of 20 faceoffs as Canandaigua beat Webster Thomas 15-7 at Evans Field on Saturday. Chris Mulheron led the offense with 4g-3a, Dan Groot added 3g-2a, while Tyler Emery and Chris McWilliams each added 3 goals. Aaron Manzer added 1g-1a, Kyle Wakefield scored 1g and Jay Woodworth added an assist. Dan Serafine played most of the game in the goal and recorded 4 saves and freshman Scott Bement finished the game for the Braves.

Thomas saw scoring from Kevin Kemp (3g-1a), Dom Scalzo (2g-1a), Brendon Rothfuss (1g-2a) and Kurt DetWiller (1g).Steve Hondorf played the first 3 quarters and had 10. Alex Mosher played the 4th quarter and had 3 saves for the Titans.

 Penfield continued their undefeated season with a 16-1 win at home. After a 3-0 first quarter and 10-0 halftime the Patriots had little difficulty with Rush Henrietta in the quarter finals, using 11 differnt players in the scorebook.
  
Tim Pfeffer (2g-3a) and Mike Thon (2g-2a) led the offense while Mike Cummins and Alex Del Pozzo added 2g-1a each. Mike Cummins and Alex Del Pozzo each scored 2g-1a and Trevor Rice and Kelly McKenna each added 1g-2a. Jason Knerr and Scott Serron each scored 2g while Mike Arvan added 1g-1a, Ben Foster recorded 2a and Dave Malone scored 1g for Penfield. Brian Dell , Chris Tatto and Ryan Nicoletta combined for 5 saves for the Patriots who will play Schroeder in the semi finals at Aquinas on Tuesday.

 Pal-Mac scored the first goal, but that would be the last lead for the Raiders as they fell to Penn Yan 15-2 in the quarter final round. The Mustangs took a 4-1 first quarter lead to an 11-2 halftime and shut out the Raiders for the rest of the game.
  
Scoring for Penn Yan were Jon Van Houten (3g-6a), Dan Mesler (4g-2a), Steven Carlson (1g-2a), Mark Kratochvil (2g-3a) and Dan Wolfe (2g). Dan McGuffie, Ryan Cook and Jon Folts each added one goal for the Mustangs. RJ Wickham had 3 saves
and Adam Galusha had 3 saves for Penn Yan who will play Waterloo in the semi final round that will determine who will represent Section Five in the NYS tournament.
Dave Bennett and Matt Walker both scored for Pal-Mac while Ben Dlugosh made 14 saves in the goal.
 
 Geneva was the 17-6 winner over host Brighton. The Panthers took a 3-2 first quarter lead and extended it to 9-3 at the half.
  
Scoring for Geneva were Mike Toner (6g-2a) and Matt Warner (3g-5a). Carson Poole, Chris Toner and Henry Heaton each scored two goals while John Warner and John Manion added one goal each. Matt Marabito and Brian Knecht each added one assist for Geneva. Adam Schutz had 10 saves and Josh Bloom ahd 3 saves for the Panthers who will face HF-L to see who represents Section Five in the NYS tournament in Class B.
  
James Ryan ends his great senior year with a 3g game. Davis ended with 2g and Ryerson with one goal for the Barons.
